Another thing I'd like is to be able to continue using the interface whilst the other players have their turns. The AI (and eventually human players) can take a while to decide what to do. I'd like to be able to look at what my planets are doing, investigate the tech tree and generally plan my next move whilst the other player is having his.

Ya, it is annoying how you can't do anything when it isn't your turn. The time between turns is also just long enough to annoy me, but that is an optimization issue and can wait.
