Galaxies need more than just stars

Galaxies, especially larger ones, need more variety and interest than just stars.

For example

Stellar nurseries / nebula

Black Holes

Pulsars

After a while, the basic run of stars is a little dull and some variety would add interest, even reasons for expansion.

would like these, esepculy if they had some sort of effects for being there or the chance to find goodys in them or ability to play some unique battle cards for using the environment if you are defending.

This proposal has been made several times, and perhaps it will be implemented in an expansionpack. But you should not forget, that the map needs to be seen more theoretically! It doesn't show the the whole number of stars in one galaxy, but the number of stars worth colonizing! There are millions of nebulas, stars and black wholes out there which are ignored, since they are of no interest to the empires - because of lack of living room or just imposible environmental circumstances - . So, you need to use your fantasy a little bit more. smiley: wink

But still we all hope for more star-/planettypes and some more black holes and nebulas.

I think they'd go great with an expansion pack - why? Because the expansion pack seems to focus (at least partially) on fleshing out the battle mechanics (more modules, more cards, perhaps more orbital structures) - having a more active area for combat would be very interesting (pulsars could weaken shields, black holes gobble up missiles and heavily damaged ships, nebulas reduce accuracy across the board etc.) - or even provide out-of-combat advantages/disadvantages (faster turn-to-turn repair speed, slower travel). It could make certain starlanes (e.g. one that passes through a stellar nursery) more easy to defend or vice versa.

More "terrain", so to speak.

I agree with this proposal but would like to see how the random events change the landscape as well. I.E. sabatours/terrorists damaging your ships, or a blackhole in the middle of a pathway you could use earlier requiring you to have the tech to cross it now.

Well actually this goes back to another idea in another discussion. The "terrain"-idea was discussed here: /#/endless-space/forum/28-game-design/thread/12078-battle-modifier-depending-on-star-systems

and here: /#/endless-space/forum/28-game-design/thread/11175-discussion-could-star-type-effect-system

and here: /#/endless-space/forum/28-game-design/thread/12243-type-of-planet-depending-on-the-orbit-and-star-type

while I proposed the idea and some additional suggestions on "terrain" and battle improvement here:

/#/endless-space/forum/28-game-design/thread/11347-expansion-pack

Here you will find a full list of suggestions so far: /#/endless-space/forum/28-game-design/thread/13003-summary-of-suggestions-so-far-discussion

You will find several similar ideas in the Design-section of the Forum.

I would like to see more defended systems, sth. like the monsters in Master of Orion 2 or the Ancients in Eclipse. I do not want to have only the possibilities to fight other fractions and pirates.

Usually I just say that I am fighting with other empires over a specific section of the galaxy. Having more variety in the space scenery could be worked into the game mechanics to be more meaningful than just eye candy, so I am all for it.

Yeah, me too! I didn't say that we don't need it, I just said how the map should be seen right now. smiley: wink

Deep space sectors, dead planets, lost civilizations ruins to analyse and scavenge, hidden space stations in dense nebula sectors. And so on.

nebulas could be cool if they were implemented in a way which allows for them to become strategically important i.e. hide fleets or stations, run weird research projects which perhaps result in unique improvents... the possibilities are endless! smiley: smile

So please don't just implement black holes and nebulas etc but also give them an advantage/disadvantage or effect so that they don't just end up being mere eye candy!
