[Suggestion] Adaptive Industrial Systems

As opposed to taking all excess food and converting it to industry, could it only take excess food not needed for population growth? This way you could build it on a system in anticipation of a full population. You could also later expand the population capacity of the system and not have to tear the building down to grow population.

Sort of. The number of food units you see produced is the surplus, which is what drives the rate of population growth. Currently that whole surplus gets tossed into the Adaptive Industrial Systems before the the check for population growth occurs, so the AIS currently arrests population growth regardless of available space on the planets.

Not really. The excess is what causes population growth, because it means there is left over food from what keeps the current population happy. It's the amount of excess Food that you have that even determines how many turns it will take for the populations to grow. Trying to split hairs, I think, would just make the tech a bit useless, in my opinion.

Currently the adaptive industrial systems remove all surplus food and turn it into industry.

Surplus food is the food the population doesn't need to survive, but does need to reproduce.



Therefore there seems to be rather a misunderstanding of game mechanics here, than a suggestion. Moved to the archives. Complaints per PM, please.
