Any change you could add it another hull, a death star maybe?? Kinda like MOO2, thing couldn't move but great for defence of a key system!

Trust me - if a game is good (and this one is) and it is moddable, you'll find all that.

Just check out Skyrim or Civilization - it's unbelivable what some dedicated fans are able to...

I remember reading threads during the alpha where the devs said that there would be no super weapons/doomsday weapons/Death Star-esque creations in the game. That said, there may be some kind of late game powerful weapons/ships, but nothing along the magnitude of a Death Star.
