Will ES come with a multiplayer server component?



Between my friends and I, one of our favorite games has always been Civ IV, largely because of the Persistent Turn Based Server (PTBS, or "pitboss"). Despite us working differing shifts, we're able to run a long term game that lasts 6 months; often doing no more than 1 turn a day. It was great with simultaneous turns, so we could log on, do a turn, log off, and wait for someone to finish the round.



By the sounds of it, ES would be ripe for such a feature. Will this be available? Finding a good TBS game that features simultaneous turns, along with a server component, is extremely difficult to find. Civ IV is the only decent game that I know of which has such features. I really, really hope that ES does as well.

I would like to throw my support behind an asynchronous multiplayer format as well (similar to Civ's Pitboss).

This would be a great feature to have - basically lets you support cross-continental MP. Not sure how combat would resolve but auto would probably be an ok default.

I don't personally like auto in any game where player input in combat can be a deciding factor, which can be huge in ES. I don't MIND the auto play in ES so much - the computer makes logical strategy choices (plays towards weapon strengths etc.) but I prefer to take control.



Maybe if we could set the "default" strategies for a specific fleet to use in an auto battle ahead of time, if the player chooses? If possible. At least then, if someone wants a fleet doing something specific in combat, it's possible even with auto.

i hope soon they make this active so we can fight out our difrences in space smiley: smile)

joking ofcourse and i am hoping we can go online to fight together a couple of ai or human.

The game has been thought out from the beginning to be played in multi. And that's why you have a limited time to choose the cards in battle. It's meant to be played simultaneously with your human opponent.

I am just looking at the features now, but I would argue that simultaneous overall turns would be required for multiplayer to be viable, so I really hope it is setup that way.
