If I delete the above line, the game gives an error message, but I can play another turn then the game ends again.



This is like reading a good book only to find out somebody ripped out the last two chapters...

If you have followed the instructions in the thread davea gave a link to and you still can't go around the Expansion Victory, then wait for the next alpha version that should be out this week. I believe the issue with disabling victory conditions is fixed in it. I'll leave this thread open if anybody could and is willing to give you a better advice.
