I have had a look around the tech tree but cannot seem to find any hulls or offensive weapons to allow system invasion, I need to clear out some Cravers.

Please look into the sticky FAQ thread in the forum where you posted this.

To Invade you must be at war with the faction who owns the system and then you must press a button (it looks like two?(might be only one) fists) in the bottom left corner when you have a fleet orbiting that system selected. As for modules which increase invasion efficiency, you can invade with any fleet, they are in the military tree around the middle, here is an image to help:
