I'm curious if the saved games I have from the Alpha version will still work in the Beta version of the game coming out on Monday.

I would guess not... but an official answer to this would be nice.

Totally not official answer - Probably like the past they may be technically compatible (you just may not see certain fixes), however I would advise not reporting bugs\annoyance\suggestions in the beta unless you're using a cleanly started beta version file.

I have tried games from several old versions in several new versions. The equations used for happiness and so forth are changed very dramatically. It may be technically possible to open an old save in the new version, that is, it may come up and start. But your position might suddenly be much weaker or stronger than it had been. And as KnightHawk has pointed out, if an old bug has affected your save game, the bug may "appear" to still be in the new version when it is really not.
