Targetting in combat?

I'm wondering if it would be possible to add a mod that changed the targetting priorities of the different ships away from their random nature they currently have.

I.e. always target transports last.

I haven't found anything in the XML files yet. Can anyone can point me in the right direction, or at least give me a hint as to the possibility of this with the present options for modding.

Also, do anyone know what this bit near the bottom of registry.xml does?

The xml files are not that large. If you have looked and not found anything, it is likely this is not (yet) moddable. Regarding the sinking fields, in combat I often notice that a badly damaged ship will appear to veer off course, usually a little before exploding. It kind of looks like it is sinking. So I suppose that these fields determine the probability of that animation being played.

I really wonder what the targetting is based on afterall. It just seems each ship locks on to one target with preference on targets noone else is attacking yet. Only if it's target was destroyed it will switch to another.

This behaviour makes sense for targets without defenses but observing how a ships shoots an enemy and right when the defenses are pierced for that round the next round starts and noone actually does the damage.

This behaviour makes defenses way better than they would be if ships would focus their fire.
