Switching faction ships around

Hello all,

I want to tinker with the Affinity a bit to give 1 race the ship designs of another race, but not having much luck yet

Can anyone point me in the right direction or file?

You can modify the races using the faction editor in-game. Perhaps if you do that, and then look at the xml written out into the Factions directory, you will see what needs to be changed.

The Faction editor in-game does not list anything relating to ship designs. That is determined by the Affinity

However, in the faction traits I do not see anything relating to ships

I know that when you create a custom race, you can choose the affinity of one race, and the ships of another race. I "assume" that if you edit an existing race, you can put a different race's ships with it. But I have not tried it.

When making a custom race I cannot choose ships, only the affinity. So not sure where that option is

I direct your attention to the dropdown next to 'Affinity' called 'Appearance'

Then you are indeed playing with an older version of the game. You might not want to disable automatic updates in Steam on a game like this as updates come quite frequently.
