I have figured out where to put the files and how to load them, but my basic newbie question is:

Can I only have one mod loaded at time? I see people talking about their favorites and I am assuming that they are running them all at the same time.

Well, in order to run several mods at once, you have to manually merge them. That basically is making your own mod out of the two.

This is easy as long as two mod's don't alter the same things.

I would doubt that many players run several mods at once. Mostly those are modders themselves who merged several mods into one mod.
