So I made a custom faction in-game the other day, and decided to give it the pirate graphic set, which works fine, but I don't like the pirate faction's loading screen, I'd prefer to use the swarm loading screen, is there a way to do this without a mod?

I don't think its possible without a mod, I'm afraid. It's not a very complicated mod to make, but I'd have to check on how much you need to minimally edit to get it to work.



EDIT: Ok, I gutted my current faction project and made a very simple example mod as to how to implement this. Just drop it in your Documents/Endless Space/Modding folder, then go to your steam library, right click Endless space, hit "Properties" then "Set Launch Options" and type "+mod ChangelingPicturetest" (without quotes). The mod is here.
