Hey everyone,

We're back with another Meet the Team! Take a peek inside the studio, learn more about the many careers and paths that led our collaborators to join Amplitude!

If you want to know more about us, or your niece wants to learn more about the career path of a game developer, or if you're just curious, read on.

He's a real-life veteran but still loves to fight (in games!), meet Sebastien, aka zBobiwan!

Who are you and what is your job at Amplitude?

I am a Senior AI developer, it's my duty to make the AI in the game as lively and believable as possible!

If the Cravers are aggressive, the Lumeris shrewd, and the Unfallen all up in your face with their peaceful encroaching, then I'm doing something right!

What were you doing before you joined the studio?

I've worked in many things "back in the day", I was in the army, worked in a bank, then video games with a long stint at Dontnod where I worked on Remember Me for almost three years, where I was able to create the memory remix and the NPCs' AI.

What do you like the most at Amplitude?

The team, because working with people who are talented and cool to hang out with is very gratifying, and that's something to cherish in this industry!

What have you worked on that you're super proud of?

I took care among others of the military AI in the game, and seeing comments from players who think the AI is sometimes way too strong makes my heart swell! It's a bit like being a parent and knowing your child just graduated!

What are you currently working on?

I am working on the next AI improvements, as far as military and diplomacy are concerned in ES2. Of course, I'm also working on upcoming features to make sure the AI can make the best use of them too!

What's your favorite game of all time?

I would say Planescape Torment, a game I really fell in love with in my youth! If you've never played it, there is a remaster that lets you to play in decent conditions. It really is the best narrative RPG according to me!

In more recent years, that would be the Binding of Isaac or Street Fighter IV.

What’s the game you dream of creating?

A tactical RPG in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics. It's a real challenge to get a cool AI going! Endless Tactics...?

Is there anywhere on the Internet where I can see more of your stuff?

When you mostly work on non-graphic features, you don't have much to show! So here's my Linkedin if you wanna get in touch: :)

I also have a small YouTube channel with mostly Street Fighter IV-related videos.

What's your favorite race or character in our games?

The United Empire, to me they're the quiet steamroller of the game.

Is there a funny story that happened to you at Amplitude?

The adventure of the planet destroyers: I had a first and pretty simple version going, but I hadn't necessarily foreseen the incredible endgame potential, and when the feature came out, certain AI started blowing up the whole universe! It made me laugh quite a bit because it was unexpected, but in a good way!

What obscure movie would you recommend watching?

Big trouble in little China (in France: Les aventures de Jack Burton dans les griffes du mandarin), best movie ever!

No one recognizes the character of the movie that are on my desk!

What's the dish you cook to impress people?

A magret de canard cuit avec ses pommes de terre sarladaises.

That's it for Sebastien! We hope you found this interesting. Comments or additional questions, feel free to comment!

Yes, please! Maybe throw some card game mechanics in there? I’ve long dreamt of an ECG (Endless Card Game) in the vein of A Game of Thrones LCG or Legend of the Five Rings, or Eternal or The Elder Scrolls: Legends on the digital side. Combining it with the tactical board element like Duelyst or Faeria, all set in the Endless universe would be fantastic!
