The Push HUMANKIND Too Far Community Challenge

The Holi Event might be over, but we’ve got another challenge for you: Pushing Humankind Too Far. Not to fame and a bright future, not to a world united under your rule, no, we want you to throw caution to the wind and push the world to the brink of destruction!

Some of you may remember that at release, the limits for the pollution end condition were set quite low. So low that for many players, the game ended much sooner than expected. We’ve since raised these limits and made some other tweaks to pollution, but we’re wondering: What does it take to ruin the world with pollution? How quickly could our best players doom the world if they put their minds to it?

How to Play

So, you think you can destroy the world faster than anybody else. How do you prove it? Simple, just start a game with the settings below, and do your best to raise the global pollution as fast as possible:

How to Submit Your Entry

Just pitting yourself against the other players for high scores is fun, but there could be more in it for you! For the four best players, we’ve got some prizes:

From now until April 20th 2022, you can submit a screenshot that shows on which turn you ended your game via twitter by using the #PushHumankindTooFar hashtag and tagging @HumankindGame. Remember to keep a save of that turn, as you may be later asked to submit this save to us to confirm your score. It should go without saying, in the interest of fairness, and for us to be able to verify your entry, please do not use mods.

But before you submit your score, be sure to read the Terms & Conditions (available in English and French) to make sure you are eligible to participate!

How are Winners Selected?

After the submission period ends, two judges will pick winners based on the following criteria:

  • The turn on which the Pollution End Condition was reached. Lower Turn numbers are better.
  • In case of a tie: The number of turns since entering the Industrial Era. Lower numbers are better.
  • If that is not enough to break the tie: The amount of Fame gathered by them. Higher numbers are better.

As mentioned above, we may ask you to submit a save of the final turn so we can confirm these scores.

Looking for Inspiration?

Deliberately taking the world to the brink is a rather unusual goal for a game of Humankind, so maybe you are looking for strategies, or at least ideas. Or perhaps you are not feeling competitive yourself, but you’re still curious. In either case, we still got some content for you, as we have invited six streamers to take part in a similar challenge, and they have been or will be streaming their own attempts to end the world.

JumboPixel - Marbozir - PotatoMcWhiskey - TheGameMechanic - 2DKiri - GamerZakh

Be careful, though: Don’t treat these as guides on how to do well in this challenge! Their goal is slightly different than yours, and they may also pursue bonus objectives that don’t matter for the community challenge! Still, we’re eager to see how they handle this, and we hope so are you.

Have fun,

The Amplitude Team

I wish the developers would stop basing everything on assumptions. Even if one completes the challenge, they assume everyone uses Twitter.  It's like being back at primary school being told to complete homework on a computer that most of us didn't have at the time. Twitter isn't a platform for open discourse, so why would anyone follow the demands of a bunch of prejudiced lunatics running it by signing up? A suggestion for the future, set up your own platform dedicated to the game and distance yourselves form third parties like Twitter.

I hope that my contribution still counts for the challenge and I hope that the next time an event like this will happen, contributions can also be made in the forum.

Ok, I created a new Twitter account (same name and picture as in the forum again) and posted my final result. One hour too late, BUT in the United States it's still early evening (19:13) and Americans CAN still contribute to this challenge and tweet result! So technically speaking the event is not completely over yet and I hope my result will be accepted.

UPDATE:

My contribution was accepted on Twitter :)

Turn 51

#PushHumankindTooFar

@The-Cat-o-Nine-Tales

I know that we are supposed to use Twitter, but after creating a Twitter account just for this event (same name, same profile picture), I got banned from Twitter for "spamming" when I was about to tweet my final result (5 minutes before midnight).

I already posted a result yesterday on Twitter with final turn 55, but deleted it because I was sure I can improve. Then, I posted a result with turn 53, but decided again I can improve. Today I made it to final turn 51, but I was aiming for an even better result and deleted the tweet yet again... After almost running out of time (10 minutes before midnight), I failed to hit a turn 50 and so I posted my turn 51 again with same text and same screenshot as before, but Twitter blocked me:

Because that happened five minutes before the end of the event I had no chance to create another Twitter account in time. I will try to create a new account now (even though it is past midnight now...) but it was more important for me in this moment to post my result at least in the forum in time (23:58).

I hope that my contribution still counts for the challenge and I hope that the next time an event like this will happen, contributions can also be made in the forum.

Please tell me if my contribution is accepted or not.

Sincerely, Amplitude's Fanboy number 1, Khaar

PotatoMcWhiskey: Threshold : 22k

It makes sense. Thank you!

Who knows why the pollution limit is by 32k or 12k points? In the "pollution video" from Marbozir he had only 12k for triggering the end of the game. Maybe someone has a good answer for that?

Looking at T&C seems it's only for privileged european and american countries. I don't see the point of discriminating against the rest of the world when the prize are just game keys...

Nice regardles. Really dissapointed tho.

Too bad, so sad! My poor little 'puter would probably have a heart attack on a giant map.

This is a good question, though I assume the only requirement is to play any of the 10 Player Earth map that comes from that package.

Now, this is what a good challenge is!

Although I hate how pollution filter taints the gorgeous aesthetic of Humankind, it will be a relief for a change not to be have to think constantly about limiting pollution.

I may give it a try if I have the time.

Just to be clear, is Peaceful Mode allowed?  Also, this type of challenge against AI just highlights how awful the "no duplicate cultures" rule is.  No matter how fast you are, there is a major risk of the AI sniping all of the cultures and leaving you with basically no choices.  So the culture selection in Turn 1 is a toss-up, and you're completely out of luck if a resource marker doesn't spawn right next to you.

Is there any way to make that map available for Stadia players, so that we can join in?

It feels unfortunate that, unlike previously, this appears to be a community event which wouldn't rule out Stadia players apart from that choice of map.

Are we allowed to only send one entry, or can we improve on our previous results?

That's disappointing! Why on earth Turkiye is not eligible to be allowed to participate in this challenge. Well, I'll submit my result anyway. It's up to you to validate or not.

Thank you for pointing that out. Not using mods isn't part of the Terms and Conditions, but it is considered part of the winner selection criteria (doubly so because any mod made with the official tools would prevent us from loading the save without the mod). I've added a line about that to the blog now.
