If all you are doing is gaming, 16 is more than enough, and will be enough for a while to come.

But I don't just game on my PC smiley: wink

I do that with games then I come back later and most of the time start again because I cannot remember the controls and make following the storyline a bit easier as I am not spending 40 minutes trying to find something. (If it is an RPG of course)I hope they did not do what Obisidian did with NWN2 when they did a nice patch/upgrade. That made it nice shiny update the graphics and other stuff. I thought great and then I found I needed a better, Processor, Graphics card and RAM just to play this patch.

Well the X games have always pushed the hardware of computers at the time of release. I mean the previous game can still push my hardware but that's because its 32bit so runs out of ram after I add about 1000 or more ships into the game after a few days of gameplay.

Okay guys - bad and good news:

The bad ones: according to the Steam discussions, the game is having a lot of issues, e.g.: low frame rates on high-end, buggy missions, missing voices, etc - but the DEVs are already aware and fixing.

The good ones: The DEVs are aware and on it - and there's a chance that you'll have no issues, like 10k players ingame now.

Wouldn't bother with the game yet, I crashed to desktop after like 5 mins in game. It is great fun but unfortunately there are a HUGE amount of bugs.

Saw a quick video from the start of the game - Disappointed that they still haven't managed to outgrow bad animations, lip sync and sub par voice work. Especially since they've put so much focus on getting the player out of the ship. smiley: alder

You think that's bad? One thing they went on and on about was streamlined menus compared to the last game.. Well they have succeeded in only making the menu system less intuitive than it was before... At least before all the menus made sense and linked together in a useful way without lag...

Got to try it just now at a friends place and I don't like it - I really don't like it.

Got as far as returning to my freighter ship before I ragequit - There's imply too many odd design decisions for me to want to play it. The highways and the lack of a traditional map completely confuses me as to where I am, compared to X3 - If it wasn't for the constant "Jump on this highway, and then this highway" I might as well be drifting in some asteroid field in no mans land. The game makes no attempt to explain the route or where I am in the greater scheme of things. Combat also feels horrible in the skunk - Those two initial drops almost got the drop on me. smiley: confused

Naw - I'll stick with Albion Prelude for now and look back into Rebirth in a few months. Maybe then they will have ironed out the worst crashes and changed a few things around. (Not to mention maybe make it possible to get 60FPS on a high end machine...)

The game is not salvageable on any level, regardless of whatever patches they issue. Egosoft is going to be on a bug killing mission that will probably never end because for every bug they fix, they seem to create a dozen more, and for every lame "feature" they try to incorporate, the important ones that never should have been omitted in the first place get left further behind. Personally, I think Egosoft should just close up shop and stop making games altogether.

I spent many hours on X:Terran Conflict, up until the point where building and placing the stations/pieces got frustrating and commanding a fleet (largest ship class with several 100s set to follow me) got laggy even on my very decent setup.

The fact I could do these things, and poured that many hours shows that I hope a more polished X series comes out this year, so I am looking forward to this. Hopefully it doesn't pull a SoTS2 though :\

X2 I liked I spent ages building my small company and buying ships. I did until I got corrupted saves and then kept getting crash to desktop. It was ported to the mac but lot of people complained there was more bugs than the PC version. I do like the X series and I keep thinking I should install it again and play it. I have a hard time trying to remember the keyboard controls.

I AM an X fan since a decade now.

i was pretty impressed that Egosoft now finally has a realese date cause it was supposed to be coming 2011 and it was like Duke Nukem Forever in the end.

it will be the perfect gab filler till Star Citizen in 2014

I am looking forward to this a lot. X2 was one of my favourite games, and I followed that up with way too much time spent in X3 and X3:TC. Hopefully they can release a proper version this time, though, instead of something that needs patching instantly to be playable.

Looks good so far, the one thing I really hoped they improved on is the GUI, the one in X3 pretty much turned me off from further play after sinking around 60 hours into it, essentially just grew tired of it. Looking forward to the next video on game play controls which will show keyboard and mouse controls.

The gui was pretty overwhelming in X3/TC. Totally agree with you there - But it's one of those things you either grow used to or grow tired of.

But since they are making controllers a built in thing, we might see a controller friendly interface, which at the least means less buttons smiley: smile

I feel that like with the Grand Strategy Games (Europa IV - I don't play these lol) genre, there is quite a bit of enjoyment from discovering all the finer intricacies of the UI (yet alone mods) and gaining progressive control and understanding of the world. But that like all games only works if you enjoy the genre, and backfires for most first-timers to it! :P :P

A good part of my life was sunk into X3:TC. Although I got turned off by the bad UI, especially when it came to station building and when I started investing in carriers. Hopefully they'll improve those two bits in the next game, and hopefully they'll also improve out of sector combat.

I really liked how the trade system work and that fact you could get modules from your ship computer. I had to keep the keyboard commands in front of me to remind myself what button to press when.

I was disappointed to find out that you apparantly can't walk around or control other ships than your own unique ship. I was hoping to sit at a flagship's head and bark out commands to my crew. smiley: alder

Random access memory. I watched the trailer and thought "this is going to need 4 gigs", get on steam and check out the system reqs. and the recommended is 8 gigs, I have 2 -_-

You also need a 64 bit operating system. With the new generation of consoles, games are going to require larger specs than they did previously.

Ain't that the truth, I hope to scrap my old pc and build a new one. I'm already looking at some RAM and a new CPU (although I might just buy an Alienware smiley: smile) so hopefully I will get up to specs by January.

Its been a while since I have felt like that lol My workstation kills all gaming reqs. Expensive as all get out though...

but on a side, note, I am not even remotely hyped up about this game... (don't kill me flames! lol)

btw, AlienWares (the desktops) are all hype. You can build a basic PC with the same specs for 1/2-1/4 of the cost I found.
