Why are we prevented from using image signatures for our forum posts?

I am just wondering why I am being prevented to use my image signature for all my forum posts

Probably because image signatures tend to be obnoxious. They take up valuable vertical screen real estate with no obvious gain. Supposedly they help other users identify you quickly, but the user info panel to the left of every post you make does a much better job of that.

The devs have that rule in place so thats the simple reason that makes it impossible.

As Vieuxchat states it also clutters things up most of the time and if people are experiencing these forums as slow right now then imagine what will happen if sigs are allowed and pictures are to be loaded in a greater extent. Ive seen horrid things like 5-6Mb signatures cause the user insisted they'd have to be high-res etc.

If you want a clutter-reason then just look at this post. Although I use it for notification purposes here. smiley: smile

but with a limited number of avatar the visual recognition of any user take about the time to read the name, it's about two seconds but two seconds are enough to disturb the flow of reading the thread. I can instantly recognize the mods by their avatar and signature.

I don't want signature heavier than the divine comedy, but i think that a limit of about 30/50kb for the entire signature is accettable, in sinergy with max height of the space reserved for the sig.

I hope i'm clear enough and pardon me for my bad english :P

So the problem isn't the signature but the lack of avatars.

There's an avatar competition (which I'm losing badly smiley: stickouttongue) and there will be others. and I think devs will add some. they didn't thought that their game would appeal to so much people. They weren't really prepared for such an affluence.

I don't think they were prepared to this affluence, so lack of avatars is indeed.

but there are a number of forums where you can use some little images in your sign, and I think that can improve the experience.

Just to be clear i have a bad time to differentiate between different users let alone recognize anyone, i am _terrible_ at remember names smiley: frown

Indeed, there's the competition (I really liked Raptor's submission). We might make some more avatars, because come on, 8500 members?! smiley: biggrin

As for the image signatures, I don't really like it (Yes, I'm looking at you Alderbranch smiley: biggrin) and it just takes too much space.
