WTF ?? Found in my event log:

08:20 AM davea has lost -237 Points for Posts points

I had 3700 points; I spent an hour searching the forums, reading posts, and updating my known bugs thread. Then I had 3500 points. That is not what I expected for putting in time to help maintain the forum.

Hm. Since it is an uneven number of points, it's very unlikely that it's due to social message points. So it's either for attachment views or directly for posts.

You would theoretically lose points, once any element you gained those points for has been deleted. I'll ask the mods if they mass-deleted anything, but it'd be interesting to know if you edited or deleted any attachment of yours that has been viewed lots of times.

That may be it. In my known bugs thread I had an attached screenshot of the "infinite fleet bug". I did not delete the attachment, but I moved it from the first post in the thread to another "historical" post in the thread. I suppose the attachment had a high view count. I guess moving it reset the view count.

Well, the points do not really matter that much, it is just that now I am losing to ArrowLance by more points :-)

Then just do it like this from now on. smiley: smile Add the attachment anew instead or take the attach-id within the tags and add that to the new post as well.

What I was doing was cleaning up the first post of the sticky thread, by *moving* the attached image to a later post in the thread. So your suggestion would not have helped.

Pretty sure I just lost a few thousand points and four levels by the same process: attempting to move popular attachments from one post to another resets their view count to zero. Now if I can just get arrowlance to do this on the tutorial attachments ... smiley: smile

Hadn't have the problem for attachments yet but I might soon edit a post with a few, then I'll see if I lose points as well. That actually would be really annoying because that'd mean putting in effort to keep your posts clean and updated costs you points which is just absolutely unfair.

By the way, the same counts for received ratings, I saw them go back a few times as well. I would think it is because someone has been banned but so far I think only 1 single person has been banned so that can't be the reason. If it would be again done here just for editing that would be pretty stupid as well. It isn't important nor is it a major issue but I think it should be fixed sometime soon. The points aren't everything but they do partially show how active and contributing someone is, so "rewarding" people who know how to edit like that is definitely a no-go for a nice forum like this.

Attachments are OP anyhow, and since the resized images are so small it encourages larger numbers of images. You can easily get 5 points a view by starting an AAR. Not that I'm complaining smiley: stickouttongue

Lol ! That's meta-gaming on the forums !

Attachments and posts in the groups discussions are OP.

Why a post in a group discussion is worth 5 times a post in the forums ? :P

Powergaming for the win !

Or not. Aren't we here just to talk about ES ?
