Casting Votes

I love the novel idea of casting votes to determine what wins. However, there are some implementation problems.

When voting at http://endless-space.amplitude-studios.com/Games2gether it doesn't ask for any confirmation on the vote. I recently voted on the wrong entry, and have no apparent way to change my vote.

Additionally, it would be nice to see the current standings of the votes, as it puts the total points in the middle which can be confused as the middle entry winning with that number of points.

Anyway, hopefully we can get some better system for this as it is such an awesome idea and I can't wait to see how it pans out.

Yeah voted for something less crucial and can't change my vote. A confirmation would have been nice...

Actually, what I'd like to see (other than the confirmation or a way to change a vote) is to HIDE the current vote totals and standings until the voting period is over.

Why?

Because knowing what's in the lead influences your vote. If you vote blind you'll vote differently than if you're aware (because of say, the forums talking about it) that options B and C are in the lead (why vote A at that point, you might like it a lot, but it's not going to win! Hooray, a wasted vote!).

Also it's better for the nerves of the community stuff vote-presentors, since they don't get to constantly refresh, hour for hour, their vote count. ^^

That also.

The reason I bring it up, though, actually has to do with a prior experience, where the Shadowrun Returns devs did a poll on what people would like as the "second city" included in the base game. Choices were Hong Kong, Berlin, London, Denver, Chicago, and "More Seattle."

After about a third of the poll-links were even sent, they posted an update with the current tallies (link).

Almost immediately all the people who wanted to see Chicago (come on, Bug City! Who doesn't like Bug city?), etc. were miffed that they were forced to chose between one of two camps knowing that a vote for their desired city was essentially worthless.

In the end, the difference between Hong Kong and Berlin was less than 1% and they did a run-off (gee, I wonder why).

This sound familiar, Noz, Panzer? You two have what, a 1% difference right now? (I'd check, but it's not worth ruining my permanent forum login to see the tallies)

It's the same thing all over again: everyone is getting forced into one of two camps, rather than voting pure and blind.

Panzer has a 2.5 % lead in comparison to the average, right now.

Sadi's falling more and more behind, which is somehow supporting your thesis.
