Forum Registration Special Characters

While registering for the forums, I attempted to use several special characters in my password. As a security conscious system administrator, it was alarming to see I couldn't use anything but alpha numeric characters in a password. I see this as a security hole and a very easily fixed one. Not allowing special characters in a password field is a lazy security method to be honest.

Moved out of technical support (for the game) into the forum support area.

While it is true that having more character options would lead to a safer password, brownhorseblonddog is a much safer password than $tr1g0n()m3try$

For those who are wondering, we actually removed the possibility of having special characters in passwords as it created tons of issues with vBulletin (creating an account on Amplitude, but not the forums) and we simply decided to forbid their use as your accounts do not keep high value information (no credit card details and such, just G2G points and maybe your email address, but those have no real commercial value).

It appears that now special characters are *required* but some are not allowed. When I was trying to register, I repeatedly got the error "You're not allowed to create an account", which is a terrible error message. I get the error both when creating a password containing special characters and when creating one without any. Ideally, any character should be allowed, but please at least document your password requirements
