Indicators of max. number of characters in some fields

While fulfilling the signature field in my user information I've met with a little issue. I was able to enter a rather long text and save it in the mentioned field. But after refreshing the page, the text was missing and the signature field turned out to be empty. After that, I wrote a little text (just one word) in it and saved the changes and refreshed the page again; the entered text remained in the field, so the changes were accepted.

That made me think of the following:
1) There is obviously a bug connected with the mentioned field. At least it would be great to see the error message appearing after user trying to save too big desctiption in the signature field.
2) Therefore, it would be really useful to see the maximum number of symbols which are allowed to enter there. And maybe it would be great to see such maximum amount of symbols which are allowed to enter in some other fields. I like that this one, the description, allows to see total amount of characters, but I don't know for sure how many users can type :)
