I find a little white dot on the rotating operating module icon above the hero. Another thing about the status icon is that sometimes its hard to see, for example operating a module with Opbot, the icon is barely visible on the portrait. Also, note that the level indicator on the portraits get covered by the operating module icon.

It is not a bug. The hero needs to stay in the room for 1 turn to activate "operating".

Going out of the room will cancel the effect and he will need to stay in the room again for 1 turn to re-activate it again.
