I'm unable to edit my other thread and there is no option to delete it, so here it is again. I would appreciate if there was a solution for this, so I could spend less time dealing with this website and more time playing the actual game.

So I tried to delete my reply post, and for whatever reason, it deleted the entire thread.

The game minimizes, but is not crashed. I can't actually interact with the game at all and just see my desktop. I can still hear the game and click things without being able to see anything. The only thing that can be done at this point is to force quit the game. This crash happens every single time I play the game and is only a matter of time. This is a new issue for me, as the game never used to do this in the past.

Have you tried launching the game after a clean boot? I'm thinking this could be due to some other program you have going on in the background that is running interference with the game.

Also curious to know what steps you have attempted so far, as far as troubleshooting is concerned? smiley: smile

I've tried starting the game with a clean boot, and using the task manager to close down everything I didn't recognize as vital and would stay closed. The applications that are running in the background on a normal day are Hamachi (ready, but not connected), Nvidia GeForce Experience, ROCCAT Kone XTD software, and Steam. I like to keep things as uncluttered as possible, so Im usually not running much of anything when I can help it.

As far as what Ive done to try and troubleshoot, I'm pretty illiterate as to what could be causing the issue, so I don't really know where to begin aside from rebooting steam, rebooting my PC, and unistall/reinstall DotE. I have tried changing the priority of DotE in the Task Manager as well as all the different ways I could minimize and maximize (or bring to front) DotE when the issue occurs. As far as anti-virus and anti-malware software goes, I use HerdProtect so I don't have to keep multiple programs installed but I do regularly run scans and quarantine when necessary. Nothing out of the ordinary in my last scan (8 files found, all of which were mundane .exe files that the scan identified as "probably not a threat, but you can't be too sure")

The only thing I recognize as interesting is, on a fresh reboot DotE will function for... maybe 10 minutes or so, give or take. After the issue happens once, any subsequent boots of the game will immediately result in the minimizing problem. From my layman's perspective I would assume that if it was just some random program interference then it would always crash after roughly the same amount of time (about 10 minutes or so). Though, for lack of better words to explain it, it -appears- as though once the minimize problem happens, the game now automatically defaults to that "Im minimized but not really" state until I reboot again. I wish I could describe this more effectively, but I hope something in here is at least a little useful.

Again, if you need more logs or copy/paste info, just let me know where to get it from and I'll provide it.

When you attempted to fix the issue with a clean boot, did you remove all the apps you mention above? Also, did it help alleviate symptoms, or present a different behavior in any way?

I've booted the game up a few times with the clean boot process, and I'm seeing a significantly increased duration of time before the minimize issue occurs, but it still happens. Several times I was able to get to floor 5, so Im guessing about an hour or so before the problem pops up. The behavior of the problem is visually identical, and I got the same results when trying my limited troubleshooting methods I mentioned before. I had to clean boot with steam services active, otherwise my computer prompts me to install steam when I try to launch, which just results in the steam installer timing out. I was able to boot steam and the game properly without any of the other software active though (including my Nvidia Driver Services and Nvidia Experience Services). All of the attempts ended with the minimizing, after about an hour or so of gameplay. The game will also minimize while on the escape pod selection screen if I let it sit there long enough, so It might not be a specific event that's causing the problem (like opening doors or activating a research shrine, etc)

The DotE team looked into your output logs, it is apparently filled with DirectX errors. I'd suggest upgrading your GTX660's drivers for a start.

Something that should definitely help too:

In your Steam library, right click the game's name, select Properties, then go to "Set Launch options" and enter "-force-d3d9".

Let us know if this helps.

According to the Nvidia Experience software (and double checked on the Geforce website) I have the most up to date driver, which is the Geforce Game Ready Driver version 359.06. I tend to not slack on this, simply because its so easy with the Experience software to install the latest driver as soon as its available.

I'm about to try the launch options command you've provided, and I'll update this post with the results. Alternatively if the command doesn't improve anything, would uninstalling and reinstalling DirectX clear out any errors that might have accumulated? If you think that might be viable, I can go ahead and try that as well.

I'd like to say thanks to the DotE team members who have been assisting me with this issue. My first post came off pretty crass, but it was based on my distaste for the functionality of this website and not geared towards the team members themselves.

EDIT1: I'm still running on a clean boot, with only the steam service software and my Nvidia Experience software selected in the msconfig "services" tab.

Reinstalling DirectX is also a valid suggestion. Let us know if any of this helps.

RE: your feelings about the website, we share the same feelings, and are actually working on alternative solutions, to make it both more functional and more elegant (big program). Don't worry about it.
