Hi everyone,

Some of you have grown suspicious that we might be working on a new project. Well, you were right!

We've been dreaming about making this game ever since we founded the studio. Our plans for this game are highly ambitious, and we finally feel that we're in a place to do it justice. We hope that everything we've learned from you guys and by making Endless Space and Endless Legend will help us to make our biggest and best game yet.

Today we are very, very excited to present to you our magnum opus: Humankind.

It's a historical turn-based strategy game in which you will be combining historical cultures to create your own civilization as you lead your people from the Bronze to the Modern age.

Here's what you can expect when you launch your very first game of Humankind:

  • One million civilizations - Combine 60 different historical cultures from accross the heritage of humanity. Begin as Ancient Egypt, then evolve into the Romans, the Khmers, or perhaps the Vikings—the choice is up to you. Each culture brings its own special gameplay layer, leading to near-endless outcomes.
  • More than history, your story -- You'll be facing real historical events & figures, making great scientific discoveries, and visiting the wonders of the world. Shape your people's beliefs and confront other players. Every decision you will make will add flourish to your story.
  • In the eyes of posterity– The journey matters more than destination. Fame is a new and unifying victory condition. Every great deed you accomplish, every moral choice you make, every battle won will build your fame and leave a lasting impact on the world. The player with the most fame will win the game.
  • A tactical world – Show off your tactical skills by mastering terrain elevation, city-building, full tactical battles and warfare. Choose the high ground for your city, and it will be harder to siege. Deploy your archers in the woods to avoid stampeding horsemen. Call upon your allies to help you in times of need and transform an epic battle into a full-scale multiplayer world war!

These features are, of course, just the tip of the iceberg and we can't wait to reveal more to you as we go on this journey together! The game will be coming out in 2020, you can follow along here, on the game Steam page, or on the official website for updates & news.

We're also on all socials with the username @humankindgame.

Finally, we also want to express that we're also still working on Endless stuff, and that there's lots of exciting things to be expecting on that front as well! Not least starting with the next major expansion for Endless Space 2, more on that here for those who missed it.

Thank you all for your support.

Hope you enjoy!

Kinda mixed on this. Disappointed its not a sequal to Endless Legend and it looks too similiar to the Civilization series. I'm severly hoping the combat is more akin to Endless Legend IE armies under 1 unit and expanding battlefield rather than the monotonous civilization movement of every single unit. However the trailer showed what seemed to be the Civilization method.
Nevertheless you guys push out awesome products and I'm curiously optimistic that I'm gonna jump on this one too. But still...

Where are my faceless marble cultists?

Amazing I been playing all the civs games since I got my first computer. And since Civ VI is a mixed bag that somehow feel more tideous than fun. I am realy glad you will try to advance the game concept further since firaxis, while much of their updates are cool is somehow heading into a corner.

And the chosen art style is spot on! Looks awsome! The tech images and do look great. Realy ads to your emagination.

I really hope you do a good tactical battle system with armies and generals. I would prefer something similar to the endless space series were the army setup works together with the chosen tactical strategy and then have a fast animated battlefield. I think the Test of times games battles was great for their time and was so supriced when the Civ series instead went to the current battle system with the hated one unit per tile. It destroys the game for me. Conquest is not fun any longer, it is so repetitive.

Like many others, I always have been keen on the 4x genre, and especially starting with the goold old Civ series. Starting with the first one, and probably each single sequel of it.

And I am a big fan of your studio's work as well.

So for me, this is a big anouncement and I am very glad to hear about it.

Now, this won't come easy to put together and to renew the genre with such a history of games. My craziest dream would be that you add your own simple yet elegant touch in the game mechanics to keep it fun, interesting and challenging. Would you be able to make it fluid to play in multiplayer mode, this could be a killer game.

So, good luck with the development, I will be looking over all news related. And be sure I will be there, day one :)

I know its too early. But why? Why go this path. Why compete with the most successful turnbase game in the existence. Civilisation. Your games were always so unique, and there just arent too many games out there that can compete with Endless Legends and E. Space. Those games just had a unique imprint  in them that was so appealing to many players. I just dont see how can this achieve the same effect those games had.

My hope for 4X is actually dropping one of the X's and making a game which is focused on development instead of warfare. So far no game has managed to achieve that with Victoria 2 being the honourable mention because one can have an interesting game without a single war but wars have to be avoided purposefully.

I hope internal politics system like Endless Space 2 one is in place (ES2 one is a bit too simplistic for my taste though, mixing it with Civ6 culture tech tree could be amazing).

1) because they wanted to.

2) because amplitude does better 4x turn based strategy

3) because civ has been becoming really stagnant, they don't innovate because they don't need to since there isn't a competitor and when they do innovate all the design/choices can be describbed as "safe", which most of the time means boring or without sufficient impact to be of important. I like Civ VI but still Consider Civ V better because it innovated more. made unique decisions, and almost all of them were important and impact full if you knew what to do with them, compared to Civ VI (which is going the right direction but still needs to make alot of stuff back from bad marketing practises and idiotic balance decisions) which does at new stuff but refuses to properly make us of these features, and off course the power creep on every single new Civ that gets published.

Google the american trad :

Oh, you decided to do another Civilization, how cool!

So it will be played as Endless Legend or it will go further with lots of opportunities like Cities skyline and a little business like Patrician?

(Oh well, it would make Anno more)

Will it be financed with the assistance of French public money?
