Hello everybody!

We have big news to share with you today: Amplitude is going indie again!

Our journey with SEGA over the last 8 years has been amazing, and we have learned so much working with them, but now we are returning to our roots as an independent studio. With ownership of the studio returning to some of our original founders and members of the team, the creative vision of our games and the Endless universe rests in the hands of those who know them best. While we are going our separate ways now, we part on good terms and wish our friends at SEGA the best for all their future projects.

Back to Our Roots

In the words of our founder Romain de Waubert de Genlis:

Our studio is backed by strong and meaningful franchises and our team is committed to creating the best games possible. With our extensive experiences in strategy game development and two exciting titles currently in progress, we are confident in our ability to deliver outstanding experience to players. This decision allows us to be more agile in our approach while continuing to shape the vision that has been ours from the very beginning, empowering us to push boundaries and be closer as ever of our community.

Working closely with our players has always been at the heart of our philosophy, and this will continue to shape our approach in the future. We could not have made these games and this universe without the support of our wonderful community. Thank all of you for your continued support!

We’ve got a new Humankind patch soon, but we’ll share more details about that next week, and we will talk more about what we have in store at Amplified next January, so remember to join us for our anniversary.

So, here’s to the future of Amplitude, our amazing community, and the Endless universe!

Let's hope this does indeed go as well as it sounds. Hopeful for the Humankind patch, hopefully you can finally get achieves with mods enabled.

Indie studios always have greater creative freedom, and that's absolutely AMAZING! Amplitude have such great creative direction and rock-solid IP's! I'm really happy and excited with the news! Looking forward for the Humankind update and also expecting news on the Endless Space universe.

Will there be more Gog releases? I ask because it seamed more a Sega initiative.

Guys, I wish you all the best in your endeavours. I truly believe you can create a masterpiece that'll surpass EL. ES2 should also be your source of inspiration. It was rough at the edges, but was brimming with promising ideas for those who enjoy clever games. Don't oversimplify your games, respect your fans, create great titles with our support and love and your skill and ability - and all will be well!

I deeply hope there will be.

GOG is my choice when it comes to games nowadays.

Focus on Humankind and Endless Space and I'm happy.

Traditional Civ 4X and a Space 4X should be the focus.

Run both games in parallell life cycles with expansion, that way I can jump back and forth supporting both games.

I'am happy to see that SEGA gives you back your freedom instead of closing the studio, just like too many mainstream editors do nowadays. I'm looking forward to knowing what's next.

I hope that there is a little place for Endless Dungeons in those plans. I enjoyed playing to it. I derserves better consideration from players.

Late to the party, but incredibly excited to hear this news.

I've been with you since the very beginning, and I must say, the SEGA years were a massive lose of faith for me; I hope you're able to find your roots once more.

Original art, original stories, incredible soundtracks, an expansive universe of games with underlying themes that stretch across the worlds: flavor, love, and dedication.

This is very interesting news indeed!  This studio started as an interesting experiment of inserting the player base into the design (and a bit of development).  I will be watching with anticipation to see if this means a return to past behavior.  As an old fan I know that repeating past success can be difficult but I have hopes this crew can do it. Over the last 8 years, and many prior, I have no doubt many lessons have been learned. I am curious to see what conclusions will come from those many lessons and how they will be implemented in this new/old indie style.

To all the Amplitude Teams, show us your stuff, the future of the ES universe and those media connected to it all rest on you now.  You have lots of good positive and hopeful messages here so show us what you can do!  Best of luck and lots of encouragement from this old gamer!

It's always this with Amplitude. Just admit that Sega wanted more than you could deliver and you abandoned ES2 at the time because you had an illusion of grandeur with Humankind. To say it's back to the roots as a choice feels as a simple lie, just like the nevercoming patch or the ongoing struggle with forces outside of your control.

You have let me down the hardest of all in my 40 years of playing games.

This is not a small matter.

You left Es2 to rot. And now you ask for our respect on the side.

Mine you have to earn again by hard work.
