Sorry to hear that.

The output_log.txt is complaining about the Mono framework, but your game loads and you can play for a while, so I wouldn't bother with those ...

The Diagnostics.html are mentioning the following:

Synchronous job SynchronousJob_QueueResearch failed.

TickableRepository:Tick(System.Reflection.ParameterInfo)
GameServerState_Turn_Main:Run()

I think that the devs may need to have a look at this ...

Update:  I replaced my crappy Corsair CX750 power supply with an EVGA Supernova G2 650 watt unit, and I was just able to complete an entire game with no crashes.  Unfortunately, I lost.  I recently purchased Civilization VI and got the exact same types of crashes as in EL, so I figured I had to have some kind of hardware problem that was causing my system to crash on CPU and GPU intensive games.  It seems that the crashes were indeed the result of a failing power supply that was unable to maintain consistent voltages under load.

Brand new crackpot theory:  the posts for mounting my CPU cooler were probably causing electrical shorts on my motherboard.  There are four metal posts that screw in.  They are supposed to have little discs of non-conductive stuff on the side that screws into the motherboard:  they did not.  I put down some rubber grommets.  I came upon this suspicion because I've had some issues w/ my BIOS not posting or RAM not being recognized after applying thermal paste and remounting the cooler.  I've corrected such errors by loosening the posts, so it makes sense that they were probably shorting some of the circuits around the CPU.  I'll play some more and report back.

That's some very good news.

How do the GPU usage / voltages / temps look like? Are they smoother / more stable?

Unfortunately, I cannot play games without v-sync without getting tons of screen tearing.  I tried playing on Beautiful with post-processing disabled, and that seemed to work out okay.  I'll keep experimenting.

I booted up the game and it crashed after about two minutes.  I still think it's related to GPU stress as framerates were chugging like crazy.  Perhaps I'll turn the settings down quite a bit and see if that helps.

icarus86:  do you have any thoughts as to which video settings are especially resource-intensive?

I'd try this on:

- Quality level: Beautiful

- Resolution: your monitor's native resolution

- VSync: Disabled

- Max frame rate: 30

I now have a theory as to what is causing my crashes.  After doing some research on threads from users' reporting component's overheating while playing EL, I decided to run MSI Afterburner to monitor my GPU.  I was able to replicate the crash pretty easily by maxing out settings and panning the camera on a big, late-game map and alt-tabbing in and out of the game.  I took a look at the log of the GPU monitoring and noticed that the voltage was being maxed out at frequent intervals (every few seconds).  I'd imagine that having frequent spikes to max voltage is causing system instability.

At the suggestion of those threads I read related to other user's heat and CPU/GPU usage issues, I disabled in-game v-sync and forced it through the nvidia control panel.  I did some more testing, and while I did have a few instances of max voltage, they were fewer and much less frequent.  I'm going to do some more testing and will report back.

It's a shame that EL doesn't include more video settings to adjust:  in a perfect world, I'd be playing this game at Fantastic settings without 8x MSAA as it'd put a lot less strain on the GPU.

Hello,

could you please upload the additional information as described here : https://www.games2gether.com/endless-legend/forum/13-tech-support/thread/5393-reporting-an-issue

More info is always useful in tracking down these issues.

Thanks !

I purchased an Endless games pack on Steam that includes Endless Legend with all expansions (excluding the latest, Tempest.)  The game runs very well on Fantastic settings, but every session has ended with my screen going black and my PC restarting.  I've been playing other graphically intensive games including Deus Ex:  Mankind Divided, but only Endless Legend is leading to these hard crashes.  These crashes occur anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours into gameplay.  Relevant specs are as follows

Intel i5 4690k

16 GB RAM

Geforce GTX 970

Game installed on Samsung 840 EVO SSD

Corsair 750 watt bronze rated PSU

I've stress tested the CPU and GPU on AIDA 64 with max CPU core temps and GPU temps in the mid 60s C.

I know that hard crashes are typically symptomatic of hardware malfunctions, so I'm looking for any insight as to why Endless Legend would be the lone PC game to cause such crashes while other graphically demanding titles don't result in such drastic crashes.  Please let me know if any system dumps or DxDiag logs would be helpful.  Thanks!

I tried running the game as an administrator in Windows 7 compatibility mode, and the system crashed in under an hour.

I haven't had a chance to boot up the game in the past few days, but I'll try those suggestions next time.  I appreciate your insight.  Is there anything else in the logs that looks out of place?

I think that "Kernel Power" event is generic, meaning that your computer has experienced an unexpected shut-down.

I wouldn't think that your PSU is defective.

Here's what Microsoft has to say : https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2028504 ^^

Just to make sure:

- did you try running the game as "Administrator" ?

- did you try running the game in compatibility mode (e.g. Windows 7) ?

Attempts to install .net framework 4.5.1 and 4.6.1 are unsuccessful.  Both installers state that the latest version and it's updates are installed.  Furthermore, the verification tool shows that 4.6.1 is successfully verified.  There doesn't seem to be any way to downgrade to 4.5.1, so I'm once again stumped.  I appreciate the suggestions, but it appears that I may be out of luck.

I am wondering, based on the kernel-power errors, whether my PSU is defective.  I have checked the BIOS, and all of the voltage rails are reading their correct voltages, plus I do not have unexpected reboots while running any other games/applications, so there must be something about EL that is causing a hardware or driver conflict.  Again, I am stumped.

It is also worth mentioning that since the original post, I have reformatted and reinstalled Windows 10 on my system drive.  I assumed that this would address any system file or driver conflicts, but whatever is triggering these reboots is still present as I've had the system crash post-reinstall.

Windows 10 should come with .NET 4.6.

I wonder whether the issue is because it is newer than 4.5.1 ...

You could try running the .NET Repair Tool from here : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135

There's also a Verification Tool here : https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/astebner/2008/10/13/net-framework-setup-verification-tool-users-guide/ - please read the article before running it, in order to understand the result.

There is no option to uninstall .NET framework in this version of Windows 10.  I attempted to run the installer from the directory you specified, but I just get a message saying that the most recent version is already installed on the system.

Sorry I misunderstood that with the BSOD.

The entry you got in the Windows Event Log is due to the reboot though ...

I can see the following in the EL log :

System.TypeInitializationException: An exception was thrown by the type initializer for Mono.CSharp.CSharpCodeCompiler ---> System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Windows mono path not found: C:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\mono\mono\mini\mono.exe
at Mono.CSharp.CSharpCodeCompiler..cctor () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0

To me, it says that there's something with the .NET framework.

As far as I can see, Amplitude bundled 4.5.1 with EL : \steamapps\common\Endless Legend\_CommonRedist\DotNet\4.5.1

Could you please try re-installing the .NET framework ?

There is no BSOD even if I disable automatic restart under the Startup and Recovery options.  Changing the detail level from fantastic to Beautiful and V-sync from 1:1 to 1:2 seems to help buy me some extra time before the crash, but It always seems to occur on a long enough timeline.  I also ran memtest 86 last night:  two full passes, zero errors noted.

The following critical error appears in the event log:

Tossing in my $.02. Have you looked at the event logs? If it is panic crashing there might be something in there. Do you get any hint of a blue screen before the reboot?
