Expanded Heroes is now part of the Tales of Auriga base mod. You no longer need this mod if you're running Tales of Auriga

Any chance this will be expanded to include more heroes for the Vaulters and other factions? I'd really like to see them.

Thanks SpaceTroll! It's mostly stuff that I wanted to do for me (because I get so happy when I sit down and play a game), but I'm really happy that I can share it with others. Thanks for the love. <3

Hey, don't count me out just yet! ;P

It's not that I couldn't do 40, but now that they're prefaced by the role, I'm not sure it's really needed. The duplicates don't seem to bother me so much.

I also think 40 Heroes was extremely ambitious. smiley: smile

I think I've toned down my plans on this a little bit. After playing with it a bit, I don't know that 40 heroes are needed for every faction. I'm going to aim for 12 of each faction to start, and then just add in more over time (as needed).

I've taken on some other projects, and I'd like to get this done and in a good place so that I can knock out some other ideas.

I also prefaced each hero with their role, so when they show up in the academy or market, it's easy to spot what they are best at. I think this helps keep track of how you're leveling up your heroes and where you want to assign them.

Working on Vaulters heroes next. New update should come in 3-4 days.

Enjoy!

Oh no, don't worry, I wasn't worried about Tales of Auriga, more about your mod's visibility and the name really "sticking". I'm glad to hear such enthusiasm from someone who's only been here a few weeks. smiley: smile

Thank you for understanding, Frog.

If it becomes a problem ever, I promise to make it super clear about the wonderful addon. I really, really love Amplitude and I want people to play all the amazing content that comes straight from Amplitude!

I personally am so excited about the new expansion! *jumps up and down excitedly*

Oh no. I've already done so many graphics, etc. with the Tales of Auriga stuff and used it everywhere in the mod's code. I think it might be a tremendous amount of work to change it now. ; ;

I'd suggest a name that doesn't sound so close to our content pack (the Lost Tales) if you don't want people mixing up the two. A striking name will make your mod stand out. smiley: smile

@Hylus Those sorts of changes are beyond the scope of this mod. This mod is designed to be pretty light-weight, so I just want to add a few hundred heroes that people can throw onto their base game (or favorite mods).

I am also designing another mod, called Tales of Auriga, that will have heroes of different classes in the future (among an assortment of other changes). So there will be at least two classes (and likely 3) for each faction's heroes.

Will the heroes remain the same classes as the rest of the heroes of their faction?

Example: Will all Ardent Mage heroes added in this mod be support class, all Broken Lords be infantry class, etc.

I always wanted to see alternate classes for the heroes of a given faction, see a Wild Walkers cavalry hero and so on. Just wondering if this mod will come to cover that.

Lucky for her, she also learned to hide her unworthiness under the guise of extreme sadism; this makes her a very effective administrator. Spying 2; Science Boost 2; Production Boost 1

Riyad Sami : Governor; An artisan of pain, he approaches the suffering of others without any emotional attachments; there is a beautiful truth in the screams. Spying 2; Science Boost 3

Amara Elham: Governor; Ruthless, she craves power at all costs. Extremely capable, but lacking loyalty to anything beyond her own goals, it's only a matter of time before she makes her move. Spying 2; Science Boost 1; Science Efficiency 2

2016.01.17 - v0.003

Added 11 New Forgotten Heroes with unique names, back stories, skills and stats

Nyarai the Trader: Governor; A shadowy merchant who rose to power in a small border town and quickly used his newfound power to exploit his rivals. Spying 3; Dust Efficiency 1; Dust Boost 2

Verus Min: General; A natural bully who oozes cruelty and confidence; his subordinates obey out of fear. Spying 3; Attack Boost 3

Adisa Afia: Spy: Charismatic and attractive, this courtesan has blackmail on everyone. Spying 4; Fast Learner 1; Damage Boost 1

Dayo Lekan: Versatile; Once a simple farmer, he was thrust into a position of responsibility when his home region was raided and his family was slaughtered. Spying 4; Attack Boost 2; Food Boost 2

Blind Zuberi: Governor; It's difficult to ascertain who is truly in power here; surely this frail and seemingly-blind old man isn't worth a second glance. Spying 3; Dust Efficiency 3

Derak the Blade: General; Selfish and sadistic, he enjoys the life of a mercenary. Violent, bloody assignments allow him great freedom in fulfilling his rather dark proclivities. Spying 3; Attack Boost 1; Damage Boost 2

Updated to v0.005 which added exactly 12 new Ardent Mage heroes to the game. Now to go and play with them!

I also might do some custom quests down the line that only spawn when you have the appropriate heroes in your academy. It's a fun idea that I might take up when this project is closer to being done. ;P

Wild Walkers are next!

I've got the mod reworked as an extension and I'm adding in the first set of Ardent Mage heroes now.

This is a pretty cool looking mod! I once thought about doing something similar (though on a much smaller scale), but never really made much progress. When you get to the Broken Lords, I suggest adding Lady Joleri Tulak from DotE as a new hero. Jeff Spock has commented that she's still alive during EL's timeframe, and that he had actually even intended for her to be an available hero, but she slipped through the cracks.

That would be awesome, Cat. I'm going to look at the Community Balance mod later to see what the formatting for an extension mod looks like. Maybe I can figure this out soonish.

Also, working on Ardent Mage heroes next. Going to try to do batches of 10 for each faction. Anyone have concepts for Ardent Mage heroes they want to share? <3

I might try my hand at localizing this to German, and also at converting it into an extension. Unfortunately, it will be a while before I can get around to that.

I'm pretty sure this could easily be made into an extension mod (because there are only additions, and no changes), but when I tried to cut out all the other info and change it, it crashed my PC. If anyone wants to try formatting it properly (to teach me what the xml should look like), I'd be super grateful.

You and Knight both suggested it, so I went ahead and figured it all out.

It's now up on the Steam Workshop!

Thanks for the gentle push. <3

By the way, if anyone wants to localize this for other languages, you're welcome to do so.

Will you be adding this to the steam workshop? Mods tend to get a ton more downloads over there.

I'm trying to keep the heroes balanced while also making them a bit more interesting.

Here's a breakdown of my process for designing new heroes:

1. Decide what role the hero is best suited for: Versatile (Any Role), Governor, General or Spy

2. Each role has a capacity budget. Pick relevant capacities that fit faction, role and hero story. Versatile heroes get 2 capacities (one army boost & one city boost) at Level 2; Governors get 1 (level 3) or 2 (one level 1 and one level 2) city boost capacities; Generals get 1 (level 3) or 2 (one level 1 and one level 2) army boost capacities; Spies get Spying 4, Fast Learner 1, and a single level 1 army or city boost.

3. All new heroes have stats that fall between the highs/lows established for that faction by the vanilla, Amplitude-created heroes. Each role has a stat bias within those norms. Governors are generally the weakest combatants. Spies tend to be good, but fragile, attackers. Versatile heroes have the highest initiative with good, all-around stats. Finally, generals have the highest combat stats (save for initiative, which ends up being moderately behind versatile heroes).

4. Eventually there will be a handful of very unique heroes peppered in that slightly break these rules.
