AoW3 or EL ?

Well, I mentioned that was still a Beta and you have to take care the potential and the planned features of the game when voting at this poll.

I honestly hate it when people try so hard to compare the two games. They are really different. I mean it.

AoW3 has a better battle system right now and I believe that it will also stay this way, so if my friend only cares about battles, I would recommend AoW3. That being said, I personally like not having total control over my units in EL - it feels kinda realistic this way. But yeah, the combat is still more enjoyable in AoW3.

However, for me the meat of any 4x is not the combat but the empire management aspect and in that area EL is just so much better then AoW3. Sure, item crafting in AoW3 is awesome, creating your leader is also very fun. But overall, creating an empire in EL feels much more satisfying. It's also more complex, at least in my opinion and I like it. It feels like EL just has more strategic depth. Especially when I think about the potential it has.

Also, EL looks better

It is still a hard choice but I would personally recommend EL.

Especially since I know my friends have both games and like EL more but that's a different matter

And yes, this is coming from a totally biased person. But we all have our biases, don't we? ^_^

but, AOW3 and EL are the 2 major Fantasy 4X at the moment and I had friends hesitating between EL and AOW3, so, I was curious to see the result of a Poll like this.

Even if many people seems to vote without posting anything ^^

A true 4X fan wouldn't even think these games are in the same competition.

Even at Beta, Endless Legend is the MUCH BETTER 4X game.

All AoW3 has going for it is a very nice tactical battle system.

Everything else is eclipsed by EL. The rest of AoW3's game is shallow and merely serviceable. It's all just a platform for the great tactical battles.

Why not in the same competition ? I dont understand, never talked about competition ^^

Uh, by saying "Which one is better", they're competing against each other.

EL is the better all-around game. From someone who has been playing 4X games since before the term was created, EL is the most well rounded fantasy 4X game since MoM, having recently overcome Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes for me.

I think when it's done, it will be the new MoM.

I think these two games are incomparable. Yes, they are X4. Yes, they are fantasy. And yes, they feature RPG, turn based combat.

But, what these games are trying to accomplish are worlds apart. Speaking as an avid Age of Wonders fan, I appreciate both these titles separately. There is not one that stands out over the other, because they are simply doing different things.

They are set in totally different universes. One is much much more combat orientated. The other is a much more X4 orientated affair. Age of Wonders is teetering closer to Heros of Might and Magic, whereas Endless Legend, clearly has influences in X4 games more generally

But that point aside. Why choose one? When you can have both

Imagine that a friend ask you : "Im hesitating to buy a 4X fantasy game, especially between Endless Legend and Age of Wonders 3, which one would you advise me in your opinion ?"

I would answer :

"I love both AOW3 and EL buuuuut atm, AOW3 is fairly better at the moment, we have more units (like... 10 times more ^^), we can play underground (awesome feature), research are better, there is a deep Customization (settings, leader's trait, classes, races...), even Graphic one (RPG"s like, that's great) and a 7th race is coming soon !

Nevertheless EL look like an ambitious game and I love the Amplitude Dev Team and G2G system. The graphics are great, Auriga is the most beautiful land you can dream on atm.

The lore is very addictive and the races are uniques.

But about gameplay, the BETA still lack of deepth....

One thing is weird too, we havent enough (graphical) evolution feeling between the Eras, we have no visual changes else the weapons which mean that we play with toooo few units (graphically) so you feel playing with always the same 2-3-4-5 same units.

Still, that game can become one a must-buy after its release but if you wanna be sure, buy AOW3, you will not be disapointed, for sure. If you are curious, buy EL."

AOW3 has the better eXterminate component.

EL has slightly more in-depth versions of the other 4X's, and only really slightly, but that's because the game isn't finished.

Overall? AOW3 is a complete game, get that.

I'm tired of the comparison between these two games, honestly. Endless Legend just reached beta. Its unfair to EL to say AOW3 is better since EL is not complete. At the same time, I think it seems insulting to AOW3 and co to call an unfinished game better.

No offense , but i think this thread should be moved to Off-topic , why ? : because it add nothing to EL , its not a suggestion or anything that will make the game better , its you asking the opinion of the forum users about which one they would suggest to someone else ... i honestly don't know if you did this on purpose or you didn't notice that there is an "off - topic", so please don't post this kinda of thread in the EL section post it in the Off-Topic. In fact the comparison is flawed because they don't cater to the same public. Both are good games, but give different gameplay feelings.

The closest game to EL is Fallen enchantress : Legendary heroes. but even that game has some strong differences with EL.

The differences comes from the differences between tactic, strategy and roleplaying.

AoW3 has a strong tactic layer with some thin strategic layer and basic roleplaying (as in "playing a role" ans not just "having stats" like a lot of people think nowadays -___-)

Warlock 2 has a good tactic layer, good strategic layer and thin roleplaying

Fallen Enchantress has a good tactic layer, an average strategic layer and a strong roleplaying layer.

EL has an average tactic layer, a very strong strategic layer and an average roleplaying layer.

So, all those games are good. In their own right.

You want a wargame (Like the tabletop ones) at a strategic scale ? Play Warlock.

You want a wargame (Like the tabletop ones) at a tactic scale ? Play AoW3

You want a management game (when your "maths skills" and your "ability to think with a lot of dimensions" will be put to good use ?) Play EL.

You want to live an engaging story ? Play FE:LH.

I was really looking forward to AoW 3 at first, but now I'm a little disappointed. AI and diplomacy are lacking completely in every aspect. Empire building and research is really boring. Races don't feel that different. The only good things are hero customization and tactical combat, but even in combat units die too fast for my liking.

At the moment EL is looking much better, but it still has a long way to go before being complete.

The fact that this poll on the endless legend forums is even garnering support for AoW3 shows that AoW3 is a better game than people are giving credit.
