It would be a fun project for those of us who are the loremeisters, but right now we have tons on our plate with ES2, EL expansions, DotE, etc. etc. So it's not in the plans right now, but I promise to pop up and push for it every once in a while...

Yes because imagine the possibilities! A team / companion based RPG, exploring the Aurigan landscape as it changes and dies, discovering Endless artefacts and ruins, meeting new peoples and civilizations, interacting with mysterious beings (eherm, the Unspoken), and managing age old conflicts in the world and in your own little group (imagine the fun of having a Drakken and an Allayi as companions...).

Id like to think they use the dust to stop eating their subjects so they get a bit more population that year or what have you. Maybe thats a bit of a stretch now that i see it written down haha.

isn't this a side effect from the fact that they dont feel anything while inside the "broken" armour: they don't taste, they don't feel, they don't feel hunger, they don't feel anything so any feeling seems better then nothing at all.

Another actual question! What's the experience on the end of the victim? Do they just sort of stop feeling, or is it your typical "Vampire is eating my soul, augh!" thing? I think I read somewhere that the feasters experience emotions/sensations from their victim; that true?

And don't know if this is under a different question, but could you use the rite to sort of transfer someone's consciousness into a new-created Broken Lord? Ie, eat a Necrophage and put him into a Necrophage-shaped armor suit?

It seems that the Broken Lords experience intense pleasure when draining others. I personally like to see it as a drug almost, that a number of Broken Lords get a high from it and can become quickly addicted to it. I do not remember any indication that they would experience the victim's emotions (otherwise, they wouldn't find it as pleasurable to suck the life out of someone).

When "buying pop with dust", the Broken Lords drain the energy off a living being to animate armour. It is unclear whether their consciousness is also transferred, but I'd like to think so. The Broken Lords reproduction system is essentially vampiric.

Judging by the Broken Lord menu background, the experience doesn't seem terribly pleasant for the victim.

That's terrifying.

This is some really interesting information on the Rite of Consumption.

Now I think I really need to get back to all those Amplitude-related game design projects.

Yay! To do a RPG is definitely a great idea smiley: smile

I don't mind if it takes place in Endless Legend or in Endless Space, as I love both worlds (and as long as there's the Endless universe and lore in it)!

A good board game sounds awesome too, it could draw the attention of an even larger public on your games. smiley: wink

So a roleplaying community I'm part of started a Endless Legend RP, and I rolled a friendly neighborhood excommunicated Dust Bishop that hit the ol' soul-eating once too many times in his quest to fix it. My question is, how exactly does the rite work? I imagine that there's some form of it that works as an instant-cast thing, as all the standard BL units have it as an ability. Can it be triggered through contact, whenever the BL inflicts harm on another, does it work on non-sentients, etc.?

Thanks for the answer! It's freeform (think the Fate system without any numbers), so exact times aren't necessary. But speaking of....

You could partner with someone (e.g. Queen Games) and allow them to use your IP in exchange for a share from the board game sales ...

Just think about it. I.m sure many, many people would instantly jump into a board game with such a detailed world, deep immersion, brilliant artwork ... I know I would ^^

Was torn between Necrophage and Broken Lords as to who was my favorite faction. That description of how the Broken Lords consume has sold me. The little things like that make a race so much more enjoyable. I like not knowing everything about the factions but its good to know that your Empire is filled with raging badasses .

The basic lore behind the rite is that it was discovered by a fervent priest during an emotional sermon -- at the price of the life of one of the members of his congregation. Whether the child who died is viewed as a martyr to a greater cause or a victim of a power-hungry demagogue is better left to the role-player smiley: smile

The action itself occurs when a strong mind makes contact with another (generally weaker) mind, and via that contact drains the life energy of the target.

Basically, for the purposes of a strategy game it's insta-cast, though at the speed of an RPG there would be some form of channeling -- it's more of a crowd control/mind control kind of effect than a fireball (think of the BL loading screen in the game). Depending on the relative levels of the caster and the target it could be relatively rapid -- but to be honest I've never tried to work out those details! There would also be the question of the relative strength of the effect (both energy gained and duration of the effect) depending on the level of the target. I would tend to make this a relatively sophisticated spell or action, given its importance to the faction and therefore in the RP.

It could work as a form of CC on non-sentients, but the gain to the caster would be pretty low (unless you want to argue that a pack leader/alpha of a non-sentient could have some sort of greater mental strength), so it depends on if it's being used as an attack/stun type of spell or a buff/heal kind of spell or some combination of those two as determined by the GM.

Thanks for the cool question smiley: cool

Super curious about this as well dude, what is it in a person that they need to sustain their weird spirit things? I have no idea, I do know that some artifacts of Endless or the Ancestors of the Broken Lords help to amplify the effects. They also find technology hidden away in ruins that look like their old technology that help to channel their powers etc, some Endless tech helps with not needing to do it. Perhaps the Broken Lords would have to absorb the living if the Endless never created dust. I do hope the Devs dont say they are something lame like dust collectors or creations of the endless to clear the dust off Auriga.
