Was torn between Necrophage and Broken Lords as to who was my favorite faction. That description of how the Broken Lords consume has sold me. The little things like that make a race so much more enjoyable. I like not knowing everything about the factions but its good to know that your Empire is filled with raging badasses .

So a roleplaying community I'm part of started a Endless Legend RP, and I rolled a friendly neighborhood excommunicated Dust Bishop that hit the ol' soul-eating once too many times in his quest to fix it. My question is, how exactly does the rite work? I imagine that there's some form of it that works as an instant-cast thing, as all the standard BL units have it as an ability. Can it be triggered through contact, whenever the BL inflicts harm on another, does it work on non-sentients, etc.?

The basic lore behind the rite is that it was discovered by a fervent priest during an emotional sermon -- at the price of the life of one of the members of his congregation. Whether the child who died is viewed as a martyr to a greater cause or a victim of a power-hungry demagogue is better left to the role-player smiley: smile

The action itself occurs when a strong mind makes contact with another (generally weaker) mind, and via that contact drains the life energy of the target.

Basically, for the purposes of a strategy game it's insta-cast, though at the speed of an RPG there would be some form of channeling -- it's more of a crowd control/mind control kind of effect than a fireball (think of the BL loading screen in the game). Depending on the relative levels of the caster and the target it could be relatively rapid -- but to be honest I've never tried to work out those details! There would also be the question of the relative strength of the effect (both energy gained and duration of the effect) depending on the level of the target. I would tend to make this a relatively sophisticated spell or action, given its importance to the faction and therefore in the RP.

It could work as a form of CC on non-sentients, but the gain to the caster would be pretty low (unless you want to argue that a pack leader/alpha of a non-sentient could have some sort of greater mental strength), so it depends on if it's being used as an attack/stun type of spell or a buff/heal kind of spell or some combination of those two as determined by the GM.

Thanks for the cool question smiley: cool

Super curious about this as well dude, what is it in a person that they need to sustain their weird spirit things? I have no idea, I do know that some artifacts of Endless or the Ancestors of the Broken Lords help to amplify the effects. They also find technology hidden away in ruins that look like their old technology that help to channel their powers etc, some Endless tech helps with not needing to do it. Perhaps the Broken Lords would have to absorb the living if the Endless never created dust. I do hope the Devs dont say they are something lame like dust collectors or creations of the endless to clear the dust off Auriga.
