I am sure it has nothing to due with Endless Space.

They are basically remaking Alpha Centauri which was one of their most successful spin off games ever. They do not own the rights to the name or lore however so they are creating a new story and name. There will probably not be any space combat, it will be very similar to Alpha Centauri and very unlike Endless Space.

Better than SMAC? I heartily disagree. Graphically, maybe, but in terms of story, immersion, atmosphere, and especially gameplay, it has a long way to go. Besides, CivBE is not a clone like Pandora but will be it's own game - so on this count I disagree with Val too, BE has a lot to live up to, as SMAC is one of the most-loved 4X games ever.

(Can you tell how disappointed by Pandora I was?smiley: cry I was hoping for so much more..)

I will buy it tomorrow without waiting for returns, because I think Amplitude teams deserve great support for the games they made so far but specially for the way they made it, with real respect for the community and really willing to involve us on the stages of the developpement ! It seems they do want to do the same for EL, so this deserve a day one buy !

The questions of the poll are bad.

People who say yes, are basically saying: no matter about the price tag, i will throw my money in.

And for the other folks? There is only one option: i am not going to buy it ever Oo?!

"At launch" (Or "when it comes out" to be precise) doesn't mean never, ever, ever... ever smiley: wink

An observation on this poll - it occurs to me that the official forums pre-launch may not quite be the best place to find an unbiased view on this topic.

I'd think that most people on this forum would probably be pre-disposed to purchase the game right away, regardless of other considerations (I know I am!).

Just thinking out loud here...

I think inspiration goes all ways - in one way or another the turn based games are inspired by each other - but every new fresh idea to the table just brings the whole genre forward so that is great. (both good thing for firaxis and amplitude as there is a market big enough for both of them as we consumers clearly show we love turn based strategy games !)

Then we agree. There does seem to be a rebirth of 4x games which is certainly due to many reasons. I know that Firaxis was impressed when they were looking at Endless Legend at one of the booths so it is possible they may take some inspiration in design and interface.

You are right, what I mean, is that I think we are at the beginning of an very interesting era of new 4x games.

There is a demand for this kind of games.

I think that amplitude show that if you really want to, you can do some awesome 4x games, and I hope some more studio will follow.

For a good 4x game you need new ideas, EL look awesome because of all the new ideas they are bringing, and I am sure that Sid Meyer is going to take some idea from EL and bring a lot of new things.

Like EL is taking some good idea from older 4x and bringing new stuff it is by this way that we are going to have some awesome 4X in the future!

At least I hope so!

They are all influencing each other and I think we are going to have some great

I am going to buy it the day it will be on steam!

I am not a real big player, but I love 4X games, and I spent so many hours on ES I am very happy that amplitude found success with ES.

It is probably because of ES that the next civilization is going to be on the space.

I really hope this two games to be good and other studio start doing 4x.

More studio doing 4x would probably mean that new ideas will appear and 4x games will gain in depth.

I will probably buy in early access. I actually didn't mind combat in ES, since you are ruler of entire faction, not random general in army, you can "fight" every battle. It's not like AoW where combat is the main focus, while empire menagment take a sit back. Hence I like having AoW3 and ES, and *soon* EL smiley: biggrin Like I said in other thread, I only found diplomacy in ES to be "bad" part of the game. But seems like they have been making some improvements on that part. smiley: smile

Yup, diplomacy was awful. I hope they really put some thought into this one.

you know, i think they should give a 10% - 20% sale for purchasers of the emperor edition endless space, disharmony, and the founders edition of dungeon of the endless like mesmiley: stickouttongue it might be an even bigger incentive for people to buy DotE rather than for just the vaulters.
