The main thrust of this suggestion is that unit design should offer a wide array of tactical options. As it stands, it's pretty limited. Here's what I would like to see:

Each faction has three basic unit types, the Regular, the Support, and the Elite. Each type would then have traits that add to faction uniqueness and flavor.

  • The Regular is the rank and file of any army, and can be equipped with good armor and ranged or melee weapons.
  • The Support unit would be less capable in direct combat, and have limited access to the full arsenal, but would make up for it by having specialized packages that give them special abilities to support their army.
  • The Elite is the big expensive top shelf unit with access to mastercraft equipment, both ranged or melee, as well as mounts so they can be cavalry.

Now as far as equipment goes, I would like to see more options insofar as weapons. Right now (windwalkers and vaulters at least) can only give ranged weapons to their basic units. This seems like an oversight to me. I would like to see weapons fall into four catergories, Light Melee, Light Ranged, Heavy Melee, and Heavy Ranged. Light melee would be single handed weapons like a shortsword, heavy melee are two handed weapons. Light ranged would be the existing crossbow, or a shortbow while heavy ranged would be something like a longbow.

A unit would be able to equip both a light melee AND a light ranged, -OR- a single heavy weapon of either category.

Thanks for taking the time to read my suggestion, I know the game has a long ways to go but it is already pretty fantastic and shows a ton of promise!
