The problem with ES was that you were forced to have a max 8 players which ment you could not play with all races in one game.It would be nice that added DLC races can be played in one game in EL,ala 12 race max in sandbox.

Cheers.

I have to concur that, when a game allows, I like to set one of each faction as the AI players. Obviously you don't do this in a game like civ because there are so many.

In a related topic, I'd like to have more games, including EL and ES have an option that was "random but unique". So if I am playing with fewer sides than there are factions, I don't get even less variety because some of them randomly picked the same as each other or the same as I did.

Totally support the random but unique option. While it bothered me slightly in ES, it absolutely drove my friends nuts when we were playing multi and he found an AI the same race as him.

Now I'm asking myself why there isn't such an option like "random unique" already in game. Those is a genius idea and I hope someone from Amplitude sees it ^^

Looking at the UI it looks maxed for 8 again.

Yes, but I would like to think that this time they would increase the limit as they increase the number of major factions.

Another request for random-but-unique AI opponents. I remember there were requests for this in ES, but I guess they never got around to it.

In ES, it meant that I never chose the random option, because while I like not knowing who my opponents will be in random map game, I also hate seeing my own faction pop up against me. Two or more of the same race isn't quite as bad, but it still breaks immersion. If the premise is that you're expanding from a single solar system into interstellar space, it's silly to meet your own race out there, or two identical races "discovering" each other for the first time.

It seems like it would be a very simple thing to program, and it's the way other games like GalCiv2 work when you choose random AI opponents. So I'm hoping they can do it for EL. A tooltip could explain that repeats will still occur if you choose more players than currently available factions, since we'd only get unique opponents in a 4-player game right now.

Having it be your own faction mattered less, at least to me, once you were able to customize your own faction. Learning half way through the game that 3 of your 4 opponents were Cravers was another story.
