AI gods of Auriga

We have always felt the influence of the Great Ones, deep in their slumber under the earth of Auriga. Their works were subtle like the fall of a single leaf in the wind, but sometimes would blossom into titanic acts of power like unnatural storms or blights of unimaginable lethality. They whisper into the ears of their followers, teaching them the hidden secrets of the Endless, moving them towards goals and purposes that make little sense to an ordinary mind. They are like gods to us now, even though we know that the Endless made them to be servants.

Fallen Branch, Wild Walker Sage

Gameplay Idea:

The idea is that there would be several "gods", great AIs built by the Endless for routine work on Auriga who have slipped their shackles and begun trafficking with the Factions of Auriga so that their purposes can still be pursued. Hopefully, this will increase the replayability of Endless Legend.

Factions would spend Influence points to get specific effects from the AI gods, but spending points with one god makes all other costs to other gods go up. The effects would be:

-Quests: Each AI god would hold dominion over certain resources and luxuries, specific god-only techs, god-only heroes, but could also serve as a source of unlimited general quests.

-A god-specific power. Like Luxury resources, this would be a timed benefit for your whole Faction or a malus on the world.

The Gods:

The Mad Weathermaker: Built to control the weather of Auriga and abandoned by the Endless, the Weathermaker has gone mad with his impotence to affect the Winters that threaten to consume the planet. Now it is a force for chaos and destruction, an enemy to all those who are not ready for a winter that never ends. Powers: Spend influence to convince the Weathermaker to expend his power to bring a Winter early.

The Whispering Gamer: Designed as a Virtual war simulator and entertainment device, Gamer wants only to play. He whispers into the ears of soldiers and generals, moving men and materials across the board to test his newest theories on the art of war. Power: Spend Influence for a one-time XP gain on all friendly units on the map.

The Angry Tinkerer:
Originally a Concrete automated space-ship design facility, the Angry Tinkerer is devastated by the loss off the technological base that allowed it to pursue it's function. Now it plays favorites among the Factions, trying to rebuild a society that can once again reach for the stars. Power: One-time boost to existing resources.

The Defiant Librarian: The Defiant Librarian was once a repository for all Endless tech on Auriga, but it has been corrupted by the semi-intelligent Endless hacking software that it contained. Now it seeks release from the confines of the database where it resides, and it is willing to dole out snippets of Endless lore in exchange for each tiny step towards it's freedom. Power: one-time boost to science.

The Idiot Shepard of Cities: Sentient by only the most broad definition of the word, this urban planning software seeks only to foster the growth of sentient life on Auriga. Little else is known about it, its messages and communications merely felt rather than heard. Power: bonus to FIDS in all cities.

It reminds me of the gods in Warlock (that's a good point in my opinion).

I like the idea of them being AIs built by the endless.

Hey K__ -

A very cool concept. I don't know if we can work the idea into the lore and game, but I'd sure like to try.

Thanks!

I see it being an expansion as it's not something everyone would want to add and from my experience, people that create games are more likely to make expansion mechanics optional then core mechanics.

With that said, I really like the idea but I would rather it be a little more in depth then just spending influence for a one time buff. Maybe something more continual, like spending influence and completing quests to improve relations with the gods for ever increasing permanent buffs in addition to some gifts at certain points, like when completing a quest or reaching a new level of favor.
