I saw the recent update to beta version apparently done after my playing this morning (It's 3pm July 3rd in Eastern US). I figured it's probably too recent for anyone to have posted on this yet.

The beta version release screen came up fine, and I don't know if it's just me, but the rain on the entry screen seemed to be more vivid.

I was in a Broken Lords game from this morning, and I was glad to see the new version was able to continue from the previous version's saved game. I was about turn 8 or so.

My welcome to the new version was a monster being created and immediately making a beeline for my undefended capital. No hesitation, no randomness, he telepathicly knew where the place was and no one was in it. I suppose I should be thankful he didn't have enough movement to take it right away.

My starting force with the hero had just enough movement to get next to the capital. One of my 3 population died from starvation (from 1 turn of siege?), and then the monster attacked. My 2 stalwarts and hero managed to destroy him with considerable damage. You don't have much dust at the beginning of the game, so I used what dust I had to repair one of the stalwarts, and left him in the capital.

My hero and other stalwart headed out to explore, hoping to avoid combat. No such luck. Every few turns a monster seemed to hit. Using my movement to get out of sight didn't do any good, they came in like some weird dust-seeking missile. The force got weaker with every battle, and I managed to scrape up enough money to repair my hero once. Forget any development or growth, I had to use my limited dust production just to stay alive.

I checked the capital about population growth. Replacing that 3rd population point would cost about 103 dust. This early? At that point I quit in frustration.

As far as I am concerned, the Broken Lords are indeed broken. They don't seem to be good fighters, and are far too expensive to repair. I came into the game knowing this, and planned to just explore and not attack anything, but no good. I kept repeatedly getting hit by wandering monsters. Omnisicent monsters are really frustrating.

Running around being progressively chewed up makes it a relief to go back to work.

I, too, noticed an incredibly quick and frequent spawn on monsters coming from villages beginning with the very second turn trying out the new faction.

It's not just a problem for broken lords. I don't think anybody can handle single units coming at them from all sides this early in the game. Maybe the Vaulters. I don't know if they can do a quick fix for this, but it's going to be a real problem ... though perhaps an interesting way to approach higher difficulties of the game.

mmm, it can depend on what kind of unit your facing, if its the Silics your in a world of hurt, they can be a nightmare in the early game, especially if your playing the necrophage since they dont have a diplomatic outlet.

Broken Lords are not broken, but you have know how to play them. First step is location, location, where you settle can make or break your early game. if you can settle on a river do so, on a river that empties into water even better, anomalies are great, dont forget science and production levels. Not all locations are regions are prefect, if you have to take an extra turn, to get to a better location, that what you have to do. They changed the population buy from previous version, so you cant get a second population on the first turn, but you should be able to buy it on your second so no worries. First turn upgrade the unit blueprints for the Stawalts to include full armor, I go for claymore as well, but you can use the shield and sword its your choice, in the early game basic iron armor is better than nothing. Queue up your founder's stone and then an extra Stawalt unit. On the science side consider queue language square first then foundry for the production bonus, what you pick next depends on what your starting region has.

depending on how many minor villages you have, or which ones they are you may choose to either fight or make peace with them. if your gonna fight do it early, before they grow, the same goes for villages in the surrounding regions too. its better to make peace with the minor outside of your first region, some may even give you a quest to destroy the village/s that in your home region. I like to destroy the villages in my home region if possible so i can get a free population later after ive bought my way to like 8 or more population in my home village.

As soon as you get your third stawalt complete your first quest, since if gives you a reduction to the cost of science for tech 1.
