In all reality, eventually Winter is not an issue for any city with a governor and any army with a hero.

That said, even if it was, some of us like the map better in the summer, and enjoy the "changing seasons" aspect.

Please include an option to disable the endless winter!

(If it exists somewhere and I totally missed it please let me know)

I suppose if some players want to experience the game like that, it will not change my experience.

But eternal winter is part of the game identity, it's what defines late game, it's part of Auriga and it's what cripples most races expect Vaulters, meaning, it's also about balance.

Exactly, disabling this option would not be lore-wise at all ^^

Swell.

I'm not disabling it for lore reasons. So not really relevant

It should still be an option. If you wanna keep it winter all the time go for it. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be available as a choice.

Winter becomes irrelevant eventually. Your cities have heroes in them, your armies have heroes in them, and unless you're a dunce you've got the anti-winter trait in all those heroes.

Not to mention, if the game is balanced around "well eventually it's always winter and only one race doesn't suck at winter", that's not "balance" at all, and doesn't make for an interesting game. Especially if you want to play a very long one.

Like maybe keep the Eternal winter but make it take longer for it to happen like when someone reaches the last stage of Tech, or Turn it off for multiplayer.

Agree that Endless Winter comes to early. I prefer longer games. Should be an option of some sort. Either on/off or lets you decide about when it kicks in... something like +-50 turns of turn 300, or +-50 turns of turn 400, etc.... That would give a 100 turn window of when it could kick in so you wouldn't know exactly when. So for example, if I chose +-50 turns of turn 300 it would kick in somewhere between turn 250 and 350. Obviously if the only victory condition selected is Score and that is hard coded to end at Turn 300 it will have to kick in earlier. But otherwise, I would like to see an option where I can more or less set it.

I fully agree smiley: approval

Preferring longer games and huge maps myself, I don't like to be forced to play in a too specific manner just to counter the late-game winter penalties. There should be an option for the number of turns before eternal winter kicks in and/or an option for the average number of turns for these winters to last. The overall effect is simply to make winter more modifiable.

I'll preface this by saying that having an option to disable this is perfectly OK as long as it isn't the default.

I usually play multiplayer or solo with multiplayer-settings so Slow or Endless pace games are a no-go. Here's some things I like about Eternal Winter, (assuming that it is a short episode at the end of the game):

Rewards Preparation - Players that prepare themselves for this event will be in a much better position. Did you build Watchtowers and Roads? Is your Empire too wide? Did you invest in smiley: food techs?

Vaulters' Abilities Mean Something - The Vaulters have a lot of Winter-related techs that shine here.

Sense of Urgency - Many players tend to sit on their butts building up cities and armies then find out late they are losing and scramble to attack. Eternal Winter makes it much more difficult to do this and (should) motivate players to go for victory earlier.
