Hello Everyone,

As there were some confusion about the battle rules, so please let me detail a few things:

The basic rule is:

Damage = Attack - Defense

yet there are a few modifiers:

Damage is increased by:

Morale level: +5% damage per morale level

Height bonus: + 30% damage (+60% in winter)

Damage is reduced by:

Morale level: -5% damage per morale level

Forests: -33% damage

Critical hits:

10 in critics gives 10% chance to land a critical hit, 50 crit gives 33% chances (the formula will change)

a critical hit gives 100% extra damage.

How to get morale levels:

+1 level per friendly unit close to you

+ 1 level for being in a city (soon to be upped to +3)

(the morale used to be represented by little white dots at the bottom of a unit in battle, and now it is 1 dot surrounding by six little curved rectangles)

Let me know if it is clearer now!

Just for the sake of clarity, at which point in the calculation are the damage modifiers applied? Does high ground give +30% to the result after defense, or to the attack value before defense? That makes a huge difference. To construct a moderately reasonable example:

30 Attack versus 20 Defense.

If High Ground applies to attack before defense we get: 30*1.3-20 = 39-20 = 19 damage

If High Ground applies to the final damage output we get: (30-20)*1.3 = 10*1.3 = 13 damage

That's quiet a bit of difference. Furthermore, the bonus applying to attack value rather than final damage might also allow units to overcome Defense values that they otherwise could not damage.

And what about the various -slayer attributes and the Charge ability? I'm fairly confident, from tooltips and peeking into the files, that both raise the attack value before defense is applied, but a little confirmation would be welcome.

The modifiers are applied after the Attack - Defence.

The slayers and charges increases the Attack directly, so it's lowered by the defence.
