Hello there!

It's very nice that you are still making new content for Endless Legend. I really liked Endless Legend but not the battle system. That's why i never played the game that much. So, when

you are still delevoping the game then please please please please please please change the battle system into something else. I now it might not be easy but i would like the game much more with a battle system which is similiar to Age of Wonders for e.g.

Ok, that's what i wanted to say to you! Happy gaming!

If I were you, I wouldn't hold my breath for a complete rework of the combat system.

Amplitude had specific goals in mind when they designed the system, and while tere are details I think they could have improved, I think that they mostly achieved these goals. And their goals with the combat system have not changed, so a rework is unlikely.

Smaller improvements may not be entirely out of the question, though, so if you have specific suggestions to improve the system, please do share them.

To start him off you could add an option to choose unit actions every combat turn which would certainly help make combat more predictable given the lowest number of turns between choices is 2 turns which seems ridiculous given that your units will do what you want for one turn and then whatever they feel like for the next turn before you can give them specific orders again.

Ever looked at the options when starting a new game? Because such an option already exists.

what the combat mostly needs is a good tutorial, I think that by now I know all the control short-cuts but it does take a while before you learn all of them.

Nah, I love the combat system as it is, it could use some tweaks but the big overhauls should be left for Endless Legend 2

Disagree! I actually really like the system as is.

The system is at its best with interesting map layouts, though. A really interesting setup is when there are choke holds and you choose to defebnd in one place, only to have the enemy do the same waiting for their flying units to reinforce.

What, in your opinions, lead to the most intersting maps? its always lots of small lakes and lots of cliffs and ridges for me.

It's the default. "Encounter Sequence" can be set to either "Normal (Players will be able to set their targeting sequence each round)" or "Advanced (Players will be able to set their targeting orders every 2 rounds)." Not sure what makes that more advanced, but it looks like you changed your setting to "Advanced" at some point, because I'm pretty sure Normal is the default.

I quite like the combat system, even if it allows for less precise tactics like a real turn-based system. If they added that then initiative would be pointless and the initiative mechanic adds to it. That said, a full on turn-based system would allow for whoever gets their units attacked the opportunity to move those units or give them other orders than retaliating every phase. Add attack of opportunity and it's solid.

That might be something they should look into for Endless Legend 2, but I don't feel the combat is so bad I can't play. Ofcourse, everyone has their own opinion so it's not like not liking it isn't a valid point, but overhauling EL would be tough and better put that effort into the next game. If they stick to the same system I do think there's things that can be improved upon it.

Did they ever change this? I recall that even back in he early access days the amount of turns in between combat orders was unusually long and advanced was a shorter option, but instead its longer now???? That naming system really needs to be changed as there is nothing advanced about waiting 2 turns between orders and letting the godawful AI decide for you.

They changed that long ago, before even the first DLC released. And the 2 turn pacingis considerdd advanced because you have to understand the "godawful AI" of your units to predict what they will do in the second turn.

Yes and something else which I learned. The position of your units and the ground they will end up on is absolutely important. The AI isn't as godawful as you think.

-1 battle AI is actually "godawful". Every time the AI takes control due to an unforeseen crit, I go into spastic facepalming mode.
