Do City Improvements Need Higher Upkeep Costs?

Reply
Yes, they make no difference to how I play or what I build.
No, they are fine as they are.

What are your thoughts on the current upkeep costs for city improvements?

Upkeep on City Improvements is not a deterrent on what you build. Not sure if the issue is the upkeep values themselves or the amount of Dust given out by the game.

I personally think the upkeep costs should factor into what you build, and what you skip on for the sake of the empire. We need something to stop/deter the build everything mentality

Building everything costs ressources. If you can do it without suffering anywhere else you've already won except for mop up.

Not sure if we need to increase upkeep, industry costs, or tweak dust income/ building values. However, there really isn't much strategy with building right now - build it all!

Unfortunately, any kind of adjustment to do this would have to make certain buildings not viable in certain situations. This would mean less buildings per city, and probably necessitate either more available buildings, or a difference in existing buildings. Either way, fixing this would require more of a major economy overhaul than a simple patch, and this is something Amplitude is unwilling to do.

Improvement upkeep is a mixed bag:

It can be significant for factions that use little Dust, such as Wild Walkers. At the start of the game, building everything might give you negative income in winter.

But for factions that always have lots of Dust, such as Roving Clans, Broken Lords and Ardent Mages (with pillar) >> the upkeep is almost nonexistent.

So, yeah some factions have it hard while others are completely unaffected by it...

A solution to this could be an upkeep that scales with your income, giving higher costs for the high dust producing factions.

Funny - I haven't unlocked roads and trade routes yet and I am bleeding dust during winter. To the point of losing armies. smiley: stickouttongue
