really enjoying the game so far, my only big gripe is the combat system. I feel it could be vastly improved to allow for greater manual control. For example:



-battle phase cards like in Endless Space.

-Hero Abilities/spells that can be used to buff/debuff allies/enemies

-be able to assign individual infantry to guard a ranged or support unit

-be able to have mounted units charge enemy infantry or ranged for damage increase at the cost of losing the next turn

-be able to choose a 'formation' for your army as opposed to just advance/withdraw to or from the enemy.



right now it just feels like there's no point to taking manual control unless you want to watch the unit animations over and over again. winning is more about having the right army composition (mixed units) and the right upgrades (keep buying the latest tier armor and weapons) than it is about making smart tactical choices on the battlefield.

Something like the ardent mage's (activate with a cost) doesn't seem like it would work very well.



I would rather see support spells be made more powerful and more numerous, and have additional interesting passives.



Semi - unrelated, but a fourth battle state (dig in?) would be nice. Units using this wouldn't attack but save their counter, and possibly get an extra free counter.

I love the game, and honestly i like the combat mechanic though i agree that sometimes it feels tedious to not have some "more" manual control over some units.



Specifically the infantry ones that take a specific route to their targets that sometimes is NOT the best suited and end up losing a turn... in a matter of speaking.



Some abilities would be interesing.



It also has happen to me that once the combat starts and the ranged units are engaged by the enemy, there is pretty much no option other than attacking... since they won´t move far enough to "escape".



Or maybe have a different set of options during the combat phase that one can activate, maybe gaining some abilities like "push back" or being able to have some

maneuverability letting them have some other options to order during combat.
