The levelling of mercs and heroes in the marketplace

Okay, so in my last couple of games I've noticed that the levels of mercs and heroes rise with the progression of turns. I think they should level when the first player reaches a new era. The reason being they become very pricey in the late game, kind of too pricey.

So maybe cap it with the eras (level two era two, level three era three, etc)

If a player or AI sells a higher level unit so be it, but it would be nice if the merc and hero section of the marketplace was always a commercially viable option for weaker less well off players.

Thoughts?

I think it needs to be looked at because I could not use the privateers option late game because the mercs cost a bomb

A better change would be to have heroes of varying levels available at any time. Continually changing over time like they do now. It would make hiring heroes much more interesting. Waiting until you can afford the one you want, hoping the hero won't disappear before then. Hiring cheap heroes early on to slowly level as town administrators. Hiring mid range heroes to work on with experience running around killing roaming armies and attacking minor factions. High level bruisers/administrators for when you need an extra boost and can afford it. etc.

Heroes leveling and price going up for me has been pretty consistent with new ages

When you hit your stride economically even lategame Mercs are about 2-4 turns of dust each. That's a LOT faster than high-tech units you make in your cities depending on how you've put your science together. They're only expensive to a non-economic strategy (which they should be).

With that said, and relatedly;

I'd like to see the ability to put a hero on privateers. It would make them more powerful, yes, but mercs end up chumps later in the game unless someone sells a unit that's pretty heavily decked out.
