Region names should be uncovered the moment the first tile is uncovered.

If everywhere in the UI (units explorers, quests, etc), the region a unit is is implicitly known, why keep it hidden in the map? They should be visible the moment one tile of the region is uncovered...

It would make quests less annoying to perform, especially the minor faction quest telling you to destroy another minor faction village in X region.

I'm having to waste time randomly exploring the wrong region, then having to turn back when I can finally see the actual name.

I agree, but I feel like it would break some of the immersion. I like how it looks and feels right now, even if that means I have to look for that region.

Clues are usally given by villages around the borders of a region if you're lucky.

Knowing the region's name after exposing the first tile would definitely cut down on exploration, however is that a good thing? One of the best parts (to me at least) of the late first era, early second era is the constant probing and defending from enemy scouts while simultaneously exploring and trying to get an outline of the general area I'm in. I believe that a better solution to the whole name thing, would just be placing a beacon over all the places affected by quests.

Exploration is part of the fun in this game, and I don't think it would be a good idea to unveil the region's names too early.

Sometimes, you can guess if you are in the correct region based on the visible part of the name.

Maybe there could be a research or a faction trait that reveals the name of the region (as well as the border line?) when first entering in it.

I have seen recently a video about Civ:Beyond Earth and one of the starting traits shows the coast lines at the start of the game. I really like this idea. Maybe a derived trait could be bring to EL. For instance, "Cartographer: Shows the borderlines and the names of the regions surrounding the starting location".

I think that's a great idea of showing the borders of each region, but honestly I think that may be a bit much. How about just showing the borders and names of the surrounding regions? Also, this could really be a nice feature that could be expanded on by adding more traits that give you a sight advantage. Perhaps there could be one that revealed the coastline as you said, or one that reveals ruins from farther away, or perhaps one that could reveal the topography of a an adjacent region.

I think the point is missed here: another places of the interface mention the region, even if the map name is not visible in the map itself. For example, if you go to the army screen, it will show that the unit is in the Region X. However, the map doesn't show the region X, until you have uncovered some *very specific tiles*, that have the region name. That is, the game is inconsistent in this regard.

How about a system based not on the specific uncovering of tiles, but the percentage of the total region uncovered? You could have the region name appear on the map is you uncover 40% or maybe 50% of the total tiles.

If that is an option, then it must be consistent throughout the game. If you have an army in this "unknown" region, you can see the region name by entering the army screen:

Here is an army in an "unknown region":

No... not unknown: the army screen shows the region name...

By the way, if the solution direction is toward region name being revealed, a possible solution is to place the region name in the popup dialogs... Example:

That is so workaround... I like that. Before I loved that I had to guess name of region by few letters I see.

Another point: let's simulate a dialog between a hero and a village chief.

VillageChief: - My daughter Ayala was kidnapped by those d* Bos thugs! Please, rescue her!

Hero: -Bos thugs? No problem, I will rescue your daughter! In which direction did they went?

I doubt very much that the village chief would answer to that something like:

VillageChief: - Oh, the Bos thugs went to the Secret Caves of Loss-Gundur, in an unknown region in the universe...

Instead, he would have responded:

-"That direction"! or "East!", "West!"..
