Many games make excellent expansions by repurposing art assets and game mechanics that are already developed.





Make all current factions available for use as BOTH Major and Minor factions.



Cycle 1

Converting Major factions to Minor factions.

Faction bonuses for Pacified/Converted cities needs to be added.

Everything else already exists. No new story or art assets are required.

Essentially we're just pruning back the Major factions.

This can be handled as a minor dev project and rolled out with minimum fuss.



Cycle 2

Converting Minor Factions to Major Factions.

This is a larger project.

New art assets, storyline, units, and skilltree items are required.



When completed this also provides a Major/Minor template for any new factions added to the game either by the primary Devs or the Mod Community.

This project would significantly increase the playable factions, enhance the replay enjoyment of the game, and provide additional tools for the Modding Community.

I like the minor faction idea (maybe picking only factions as minors that aren't among the major factions in the game), but I'm not sure if the minor factions are interesting enough to turn into major ones. Though I'd like some minor faction heroes at least (much like Endless Space has a variety of heroes unrelated to the playable factions).

Seems quite interesting. Why not adding starting as minor faction till you earn enough fame points or gold to attract or simply buy a hero and found your empire with? Just an idea, but this will give the opportunity to have unbalanced starting. Ongoing with this thought...if your empire gets destroyed...why not re-joining / go on as a minor faction you once started with?



Major background idea is to have a living world, without borders between minor and major factions.
