I want to play more but the AI is very poor.

Hello everyone, I'm new here and I want to start by saying that I absolutely love Endless Legend and currently have 160 hours dropped into the game. I really enjoy the fantasy theme, the music, and the aesthetic to the game, as well as the vast mechanical improvements over the neighbouring Civ games (love those too!). I enjoyed this game so much that I bought the entire DLC series up to Inferno for a friend just so we could drag my clunky desktop over to his house to smoke weed and play Endless LANgends, lol. He then paid it forward and bought it for our friend who's currently living in Japan right now so we can all play together.

I am currently playing with the "Improved AI" mod which I understand is part of the community patch? I don't know much about that.

Anyways, I know this topic has been beaten to death, but the AI is severely lacking in this game. I enjoy playing on impossible, but for all the wonder in this game you get pigeon-holed into single-facted military victories at the expense of the poor AI and it's aggressive bonuses on the difficulty setting.

Rather than the DLC that currently dropped this month, I'd pay full retail price for an AI improvement alone, even better if it came with other quality of life changes that I've eagerly read about on this forums; you guys really know your stuff!

Can anyone tell me how they like to enjoy this game? Perhaps there's something I've overlooked. Also I heard there's a Discord for this game? I might be interested in joining that; I'm not a very good at multiplayer for this game but I'd love to play with others who enjoy it too!

Thanks everyone, have a lovely day

There is a Community Patch that vastly improves the AI and I whole-heartedly recommend it. The only thing is that you have to wait for a bit after a major release to have it up[dated to fit with the new mechanics.

LeaderEnemyBoss is the creator and he's very dedicated. I suggest you wait and give it a try. The update for the latest expansion is in beta at the moment so you can still play around with it but expect a few bugs. It really should be stickied at the top of the forums.

The improved AI mod is old and does not go as deep as the Community Patch...AFAIK.

The Improved AI mod is a bit outdated. The community patch is current with the state of the game and does way (!) more than a workshop mod like Improved AI could ever do. Since Symbiosis is freshly released, there is currently no official community patch available. However there is a beta version out there. If you are interested in more, here is the official forum thread: https://www.games2gether.com/endless-legend/forums/15-modding/threads/30618-endless-legend-community-patch

You can join our discord and ask for the beta if you want to try it

Okay, so the standalone Improved AI mod is outdated; I should try to complete community patch, got it! :)

One more question; does Amplitude intend on implementing these community changes or will it forever be an unofficial add-on to their game?

I can't wait to try out the community patch to see the difference, you guys rock

While some of the more obvious bugfixes find their way into official patches, 99% of the changes wont for various reasons.

Is there any plan on making the AI a bit more aggressiv when you approach a victory condition?

The example is that I had begun building the Earth Core. I had shared victory enabled.

Now I would expect one of the following two to happen: Either they try to ally me (to 'win'), or try to actively impede me (attack me, declare war, etc.). And this can be implemented for any victory condition that pops up as a player as well.

If shared victory would be off, that only leaves the single path of the AI trying to take you down, making the experience maybe a bit more intensive and challenging.

Are you asking for vanilla or community patch? Because it is already that way in the community patch.

Do the AIs also try to prevent each other from winning with the ELCP? I had a game where the Roving Clans kept sending privateers against me (and reinforcing them from their side of the border) while the nearby Broken Lords were cruising into an Economic Victory. They were at Cold War, not allied with each other.

In general yes, AIs dont make a difference between AI and player empires. Roving clans can be a bit too opportunistic where it doesnt make sense, since they cant declare offensive wars. If you send me a save I can try to improve that specific behavior, until then you may want to make peace with clan players in order to "direct" their aggression to the right target.

I'll keep that in mind next time I encounter them, the Clans did seem to have it against me for the entirety of that game for no reason. Being market banned around turn 50 without any prior interaction (except meeting them of course) is rough, my usual reaction to that is an extermination war but I was way too weak to do anything like that this time.

But at least that game did serve as a showcase of your AI's ability to focus on a relevant victory type, since the Broken Lords won that one on turn 128. (Impossible difficulty)
