Hi all smiley: smile

I was thinking (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) that the oceans in EL are a bit boring in function. I then realized that this was a great opportunity for a ocean focused DLC for EL. Now I'm no professional game designer, but here are my thoughts on what a cool Ocean DLC could include:

  • 1-2 new ocean/lake only strategic resources for water themed gear (only spawns within zone borders).
  • 1-2 new ocean/lake only luxury resources with ocean themed bonuses (only spawns within zone borders).

New water combat

I imagine water combat to work mechanically the same as ground combat with the following changes:

  • When water combat is initiated, the combat arena in limited to water tiles
  • Each unit (or unit type) has a unique boat model
  • Each unit type still performs the same combat role as on land
  • Each unit gets a unique water combat buff (or debuff) according to what makes sense for the unit
  • One or more factions get water specific faction buff (or debuff)
  • The new strategic resources give specific water combat bonuses

So, not too big changes, but i think their cool and probably manageable to implement in a relatively short time.

Please discuss and talk about how you think the oceans could be improved in Endless Legend smiley: smile

EDIT: Ah, i just found this thread (https://www.games2gether.com/endless-legend/forum/6-game-design/thread/3563-naval-warfare-should-it-be-implemented-and-how) after posting this smiley: stickouttongue Guess its been discussed at length already. Well consider this a thread-bump then smiley: biggrin

I tryed to launch a oceanic world, but, I didn't success.

Even if I try to put max water, islands etc, the world generated is not a sea one. there is still too much lands.

Yeah, there is an option for increasing the amount of water in the game, but you can't make a world of mostly ocean with just the occasional island right now.

Hopefully they'll add that as an option with the Water-Faction patch (if/when they get around to it), assuming that Amplitude can deal with the problem of being unable to launch an invasion of a city from the ocean.

If they are going to make implement more naval elements then they might as well add amphibious assaults in order to prevent an un-conquerable island-wide city stronghold.

Yeah, this has been an issue for me in my last game; I was trying to conquer all the Capitol cities in the game, only problem was that the Mezari had their Capitol built on a peninsula, and the one-hex landbridge into their city, was covered by a ruin, making the whole place uninvade-able.

The biggest problem with a naval focus is that water is just so samy. Usually there's little distinction beyond the deep water, coast and lakes. It needs to be more exciting than that. Deep sea exploration and stuff. Sea monsters. Crazy reefs. Streams. And so on. If you don't make the sea interesting then there's no reason to expand on it, in my opinion.
