Multiplayer mulligans!

It's incredibly annoying to start a multiplayer game in Endless Legend!

The RNG is not balanced at all, and you can end up with one player having 7-10 anomalies and the other 0-2, for example.

And if you don't want to have duplicate AI factions, the game never remembers your choices and you have to manually select all of them every time.

So, why not a mulligan vote when the game starts to determine if everyone is happy and think their starting positions are fair?

The problem is that actually the starting positions aren't random, but determined by a spawn desirability algorithm.

A vote? Really?

If everyone got a crappy starting position, then it's not unfair, because everyone is equally disadvantaged, so there's no need to restart. The time when you might need a mulligan is when your starting position is bad but everyone else's is good, in which case they won't vote for a restart, so the vote won't help you.

Plus, Drakken players would have an unfair advantage because they can see everyone's starting location and use that information in deciding how to vote, whereas other factions can only see their own starting location.

Well, me and my buddy are restarting an average of 10 times for every game we attempt.

It goes like this: 0 anomalies, 0 anomalies, 1-2 anomalies, 1-2 anomalies, 0, 0... 7.

And then it's me who gets 7 and he who gets like 2.

So they need to fix their horribly unbalanced randomizer unless they want to add something like a hotkey for restarts that also works in multi.

We get your point that sometimes there is a disparity with the starting regions. However, as Antistone points out, a vote just wouldn't work out in the larger multiplayer arena. For just you and your buddy, sure it would be fine, but not really for multiplayer as a whole.

With the Drakken getting that scout info I don't really see a mulligan system ever getting implimented, as it would be easy for such a player to abuse.

I personally think that any disparity with starting regions is just part of the game. While a strong start can certainly set you up with an early lead, a slow start really isn't automatic game over.

Isn't it if you're a Cultist, though?

Also, the Drakken can easily be changed to not show other regions until all start positions have been confirmed.

Instead of regenerating the whole map for everybody, how about a localized "reroll" of the tiles in your starting region? I have no idea if it's technically feasible, but if your starting region is particularly poor (and I agree, the Cultists would suffer the most from this), maybe it would be possible to trigger a random generation of just your own tiles, so the other players aren't impacted. Give each player a max of two rerolls at the start of the game to prevent abuse of the system by endless randomization, and I think you end up with a fair system.
