I don't know about anyone else, but I always opt for auto resolve of battles in games like this. In my opinion the games last long enough without having to be dragged into one or more 5 minute long battle sequences every turn. Unfortunately, in my eyes, no game has really nailed this preferred style from a presentation perspective. Here are some suggestions for a fast and fun quick battle option in this game:

1. Should be a toggle option in the (in game) option menu. Along with map movement speed (please). This way it doesn't have to be selected every fight, it just "is".

2. Upon confronting an enemy unit the player should be presented with a list of units in each army, below the units engaged in battle to avoid obstruction, alongside the usual "chance of victory", strategies, and fight/flee commands.

3. Fights should be fast, coherent, and beautiful. Imagine the old animated battle chess matches. They should be representative of what is going on but they should take less than 5 seconds to resolve. Unit HP should update over this time with a death marker replacing the portraits of those that perish. Armies that are wiped out should have a death animation and possibly a victory animation for the winner. Note that these fights will appear to be 1v1 (or 1 unit for each army) on the map and if the leader should parish it would fade out and be replaced with a surviving unit model (draw). Spell animations that are used in the battle could also occur during these quick fights, perhaps at random or possibly with more structure and reason such as the strongest offensive and defensive spells getting representation.

I really enjoy this game. The art, presentation, factions, atmosphere, and map are all really cool and Endless Legend has managed to get me back into the 4X genre after a long hiatus. The way you handle the existing battles is awesome, using the map as the battle ground, but I believe a change like this could really set this game apart from the rest and offer a totally different gaming experience with minimal effort. A fast and seamless fantasy experience that focuses on development without losing the impact that battle animations bring to the table. Really, the only work needed would be a slightly modified battle UI and the scripting needed to animate the existing auto resolve function.

Thanks for the time and keep on rocking with your efforts. I've purchased Endless Legend and Endless Space on Steam. Kudos to your artists and storytellers.
