Problem: People dislike eternal winter

Partial solution: adjust the timers on winter and so on and so forth to a point where it provides a certain amount of challenge while not being a nuisance. Important to do, but admittedly not terribly exciting.

Further solution: Bring on the apocalypse!!!

Aurigia is dying, why shouldn't she go out with a bang?

1. Massive earthquakes: Periodically, during the mid-late game, terraforming earthquakes sweep through auriga. Hexes will rise and lower in a semi random fashion. This will be done in a manner where the only containment is that the code ensures that it is still possible to traverse from one region to the others...though chasms may open requiring some detours along the way.

1.1 this could be further complicated by the destruction and production of strategic resource plots and perhaps the destruction/crippling of city districts

1.2 for even further levels of complication, re-balance gold collection to make rivers and oceans/lakes really valuable to have, then make it so that earthquakes can reset where rivers are and create/destroy some coast or lakes.

1.3 to make things interesting, some even more complicated levels of coding could be employed to adjust the landscape in ways that make for more tactically engaging landscapes.. (only one narrow pass to get somewhere, cities on mountain tops, uninhabited regions suddenly sinking into the ocean only to case an island to appear or a land bridge connecting two continents...etc)

^^^This is my main idea, everything else is an afterthought^^^

2. Plague

Plagues may begin sweeping through certain regions. In those regions, cities can expect to lose some population and have reduced fids.. maybe. Units stationed in those regions may become infected and so lose health every turn.

2.1 Infected units can be sent into other regions to spread the plague, plagues do more harm to other races than the ones that originally got them.

2.2 exceptionally angry roving armies may be generated as minor villages, even pacified ones,

2.3 cities can improve their resistance to plagues by being in healthier locations (access to running water, building sewage systems)

2.4 cities may spend research points to find a cure and, in doing so, become immune to the plague. A rather valuable thing to trade should the disease rear its ugly head somewhere else later on in the game.

3. Meteors

Mechanically similar to earthquakes, a crater gets formed and any units/cities by the impact site take damage/are destroyed

3.1 crashed meteors may have valuable resources in them once they cool down, maybe even strange relics of the endless.

3.2 forests may be cleared and resources, including anomalies, may be unusable for a while as the land heals from the impact.

4. Aliens

Attacks from an occasional roving army of endless anyone?

5. Super volcanoes mechanically similar to meteors only, instead, it creates mountains and has a higher chance to do damage to units and cities

5.1replaces tiles with a respective volcanic ash variant which may be more or less useful to settle by.

5.2 see 3.2

Variety is the spice of life. My thought? What if, on occasion, a winter was replaced with, or cut short by, some crazy tragedy like this on occasion

[edit] aaaaaand i misspelt apocalypse in the title... lovely. smiley: lol.png" alt="smiley: smiley: lol" title="smiley: lol" />

Oh, totally like the terraforming stuff. Why not use the simplyfied terrain as a playground? As an alternative to the winter.

But maybe this sounds very nasty? I mean, randomized destruction of a whole city?

Maybe the terraforming more as a high-cost ability? Or as a story-depended sequel: "What happens, if you`re technogically equal to the endless => You can do terraforming!" Maybe terraforming as next tech?

(By the way, additional space maps, which are reachable with uber-tech?)

Sounds great!

I'm not to sure about the terraforming tech, and the post game adventure into a reboot of endless space would be awesome if not a touch far fetched... unless a modder up and fused the two games to that end, but whatever.

I think it'd just be cool if games started out with a world consisting of pretty flat plains and then was covered in cliffs and mountains by the end. It really adds addaptability to combat tactics in a way and is fairly lore friendly.

Such events in game already are - global conditions (for example, 40 to a loss from countrymen). And winter. To do something is much worse - the sense is not present, game should consist in competition (with AI, with other players), instead of to be hybrid sim-city with a simulator of a survival. So the bad offer, I do not approve.

But maybe as a player-controlled force? Then the competition consists and it adds something very extravagant. No idea why it`s a bad idea; with this variation.
