UI Suggestions

Hi,

Some simple suggestions concerning the UI:

1. The main menu

I know this is not the most important aspect of the game, however, there are 2 things I find very odd about it:

- First, each option has such a long explanation, and the result is a very "heavy" main menu. Most games just show a list of the options, which is absolutely enough.

The problem here is that the menu completely obstructs the moving scene behind it! Why put such an impressing scene in the main menu just to obstruct it?

(Honestly, when I first launched the game I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out if there's a way to see the scene without any obstruction).

Moving the list of option down or removing the explanations (or both) will result in a much more focused, clean and impressive opening screen for the game (Which it deserves!)

- Second, there's inconsistency in the windows used in the main menu, and while it doesn't harm the game itself, it greatly harms the "professional look" it usually has.

To be specific, there are 3 kinds of windows used in the main menu:

(1) When clicking "New Game/Join Game/Mods" you get an animation that brings the new window from the right, along with a "breadcrumbs" line above it.

(2) When clicking "Load Game/Content", you get a simple black window. No animation, no breadcrumbs.

(3) When clicking "Options", you get a simple white window, which is different in design from the black window not only in its color, but also in the appearance of the buttons it has in the bottom.

Now, all of these 3 windows are completely fine, it's the fact that 3 different versions are used that is odd.

Using the same version for all windows will result in a consistent look that will keep the professional look of the game.

2. In-Game Unit Abilities

I might have missed it, but is there any way to see the description of unit abilities, instead of going to the edit units screens?

If this is the only option, than I think that there should be a way to see the abilities' descriptions from the main screen of the game.

The same goes for the abilities of enemy units. Currently, you can see which abilities enemies have, but have no way of knowing what they do (when you're outside of combat).

This does make the game much more difficult to understand.

I will end the post saying that it's the fact the game is *so* good that makes me care about such small details! smiley: smile

Regarding your second point, there are several people (including myself) who would gladly welcome some additional tooltips and explanations every here and there ...

Hello there !

Regarding menus, they were greatly inspired from our first game, Endless Space, and then a bit left behind, so that's why they may seem a bit heavy and inconsistent. But wait for our menus in our upcoming games and you'll be happy to see that we adopted a lighter and more consistent take on them smiley: smile

About IG unit abilities, you're right, there are some elements that needs more explanations, more tooltips, and that's a thing we try to add, while keeping the interface as clean as possible to keep the player from drowning under a ton of information.

Anyway, thanks for your feedback, it's always greatly appreciated ! smiley: biggrin

Exploding Dragon, Thanks for listening!

I know there are many requests from the community, and hope the most important one will be included in future patches.

Especially the ones about making the gameplay clearer.
