Winter based faction seems like a good idea but winter doesn't last that many turns. I could see it happening if you gave them a edge in colonizing arctic regions and getting a major buff during the winter months to make them really imposing during those times though.

lol I like how I'm special because my summary doesn't fit one line xD

Speaking of which, please replace "only minor faction units" (which isn't true) with "harsh penalty to FIDSI" or "very weak on their own" or something like that smiley: smile

EDIT: Forgot to thank you for that list.

Thank you.

I love you.

<3

EDIT2: Oh, ok, sorry Nos smiley: stickouttongue

I'm still amazed at how fast you made the list ._. I mean, not just linking all of them, but also reading them to categorize them so fast...

Nice, nice.

But I wonder how long that list will be by voting time. So many ideas! Oo

Gotta wonder how will devs choose? ._. Will they choose by coolest lore concepts or interesting gamplay ideas? I wouldn't know which three to choose out of all of them...

True. But that just means the devs will have to sort through hundreds of entrees, instead of us doing it...

Choosing 3...

Well, I'd probably choose mine...and mine...yeah and mine. lol

Lords from Under

Brief History

The Lords from Under are a faction of weak misshapen humanoids that were chased underground long ago. There they were forgotten until recently they resurfaced. Underground they discovered a way to use Dust to mold and change the resources around them. From this ability they found strength and a way to fight back against those on the surface who buried them long ago.

Appearance

They look vaguely like humans, but ugly and deformed. Their skin is rubbery and completely hairless, and their skin color ranges from a sickly pinkish pale, to a dirty brown. Their faces are flat with bulging eyes, a wide mouth, and two slits for nostrils where their noses should be. Their ears have also devolved into being two small holes on the sides of their heads. They have stout bodies and pot bellies, two stubby legs, and long arms the dangle towards the ground. The Lords typically dress themselves in dark cloaks that can be decorated with a variety of gems depending on the individuals place in society. It is also not uncommon to see Lords with limbs, eyes, and other things made of living stone and gems, as these individuals have been "blessed" by and alchemist.

Society

Leader

The leader of the Lords is a seemingly immortal Creature known as “The Eternal King.” Supposedly an ancient Lord who mastered every aspect of alchemy, none but the very top of the Lords’ society know of its true nature, and they are known as the King’s Voice. It is the King’s Voice that dictates the King’s wishes to the public and act as diplomats with outsiders.

Upper Class

The Upper class is made of Noble Houses. They are fiercely competitive and constantly looking for ways to undermine one another and grow in power. The Lords from Under are master alchemists and one’s place in society is determined by their house’s skill in alchemy. The most politically powerful noble houses are those with the most powerful alchemists. The Lords of Under Upper class is strife with intrigue, blackmail, bribes, and assassination.

Lower Class

The lower class are those with no skill in alchemy and not enough wealth to purchase a family alchemist and make up most of the population. They are the merchants, farmers, and soldiers of the Lords of Under military. All lower class strive to find a family member who was touched by Dust and thus gifted with the powers of alchemy. Those that do ascend to the Upper Class, thinking it to be paradise before discovering it’s brutal truth.

Alchemists

Alchemists are the true rulers of the Lord’s society despite what any noble may think. They take the role of holy men, scientist, philosophers, and military leaders. It is because of them that the Lord’s society survives on the surface without being overrun and banished as they were in the past.

Military

Without alchemy, the Lords from Under military is weak. Their bodies are not built for prolonged combat. With Alchemy however, it’s a different story. Troops are augmented by alchemists into specialized roles, depending on what resources the alchemist has available.

Cities

The Center of the Lord’s cities are full of giant glistening towers of colorful gems and other such things. These are where the Nobles live. Surrounding these towers are crude buildings of brown and grey, mud and stone. This is where the lower class lives.

Outsiders

Given their history, The Lords from Under don’t really like outsiders. Diplomacy is a struggle as the Lords are xenophobic, and still carry the memories of being chased underground. As such, they are for the most part isolationists. But when they do interact with others, they should be wary as the Lords will utilize the cruel political intrigue that the Upper Class is so fond of.

Gameplay

-Can use large sums of Dust to change one resource from another

-Military Units are poor until augmented with resources. Resources drastically change the basic unit in a variety of ways depending on resource used.

-Diplomatically toxic, while the Lords diplomacy is poor, it can cause negative effects for the other party. Also decreases the strength of minor factions within the Lords lands

-Isolationists. Until they can create or gather enough resources, the Lords from Under military isn’t able to expand well

-Strong Production. As they are used to working with various resources, the Lords productivity is above average.

The main focus of this faction is using Dust and various resources to mold your military to fit any situation. Once you've been able to build up enough Dust and Resources you can have one of the most flexible military powers in the game. I'm also considering a mechanic where minor factions each have a resource only the Lords can use once they've assimilated and can further diversify their units. I'm not sure if that's too out there or not.

I hope this alright. Go easy on me smiley: sweat

I wonder if some body can give my a feedback. I feel that something is missing, after reading many good ideas from others. Maybe a stronger tie to the minor factions?

An interesting concept especially because your faction debuffs minor factions instead of using them for they own good by buffing them or something in this direction if I understood you correctly.

Okay, my faction is now updated with a "cultists conquer city -> cultists loot city"-mechanic to cope with all aspects of warfare. smiley: biggrin

Furthermore, I wrote a bit about cultistic burial rites and why their cities have a bit of a peculiar ornamentation. smiley: wink

45 already, i cant believe it. I bet a hundred by the end of the week

Btw, every comments about the Sons of winter are taken into consideration.

I'm thinking of a +100% ressources gathering during winter, and reducing the malus and bonus on approval of specific cliamte tile.

As for the research points, here is my idea : each assimilated faction allow 0.5 of research point around the city (max 3 *1.5, in snow tiles, with food and industry bonus, seems fair).

Units with strong HP, big foot like (sasqwach cf)..

The cynical, sarcastic git in me wants to say "They already have a basic idea of what they want and will just choose the ones that fit those concepts, making it look as if people's ideas were used when in fact they weren't"

:P

That would be unfair though.

The reality is probably that the devs are already high on painkillers, trying to combat the headache of having to choose come Friday. A headache most likely resulting fom banging heads against walls saying "Argh, how are we going to choose argh!?!" smiley: smile
