Godhood comes at a price — First look at the Vodyani

Hey guys and gals!

If you've opened any gaming website today, odds are good that you've caught at least a glimpse of a mysterious 4th faction in Endless Space 2, made up of characters in dark suits piloting sleek starships... They'll be on our Wiki soon enough, but we couldn't resist the opportunity of showing you in advance Endless Space 2's 4th Early Access faction, the Vodyani!

Originally the inhabitants of a well-populated solar system, Tchinomy, the Vodyani fell victim to a classic cycle of over-industrialization. A few decades after discovering space travel their home world was largely dead from ecological exhaustion and pollution, and the Vodyani were driven to surviving on fewer and fewer resources.

While they learned to excel in technologies of space habitats, slower-than-light (STL) travel, hydroponic farming, and recycling, they were a dying race until they discovered a temple of the Virtual Endless. To throw off the weight of their bodies, uplift their minds, and live forever… to the Vodyani the Virtuals were gods, and it took little time to establish a church dedicated to their worship. The Vodyani had found a new purpose.

We hope this first look at the Vodyani only made you hungrier for more information. If that's the case, know that the Vodyani will be the next addition to our Wiki, so don't miss it! As an end of week bonus, have a short gameplay video!

Does that consonance with Vodyanoy mean something for faction?

Maybe in the sense that the mythical creature would 'drag people down to his underwater lair to serve him' and ' Vodníci would store the souls of the drowned in porcelain lid-covered cups. They consider their cups as the most valuable heritage and display their "work", and number these cups they see as proportional to their wealth and/or status among other vodníci. When the lid of such a cup is removed, the soul within (in a form of a bubble) will escape and be liberated.'.

Seems to be some links there, nice find.

Ahhh... the Witcher.

Oh it takes me back to stabbing those fishmen in the gut and using "Excalibur" to execute their god.

Black and gold.

Triangles and edges.

Spandex and kickass.

Should be good.

As much as I love the little Sophons, I think this will be my first race when I play this. They look so cool!

That recurring diamond shape reminds me of something.

Why do the Vodyani have to consume people?  Will that be explained when they get added to the wiki?

They look amazing. I love it when she (the nameless leader) has those angelic wings unfolding behind her (which are actually the wall panels), it looks stunning.

Now I also have to say that music is breathtakingly amazing. I added the Lumeris' intro to my music playlist on YouTube, and now the trailer for the Vodyani joins it. Both have great music, and I hope those songs will return in the game and - more importantly - in the official soundtrack. Maybe a little longer. I would love it. Do those two songs have names already?

So many new races nice. I am wondering how many classic races will make it to the game. I want to have my Harmony ;D

The Vodyani sound realy nice like a crossover of the Broken Lords, Cultists and Pilgrims.

Damnit, Amplitude, what am I supposed to do with all the popcorn I made for watching the speculation thread now?

Joking aside, glad they're finally revealed.

So if I understand correctly, the quest line of this faction will feature a lot of enemy troops spawn events or will there be something like a twin faction with which they are always at war with?

I am blown away by the faction reveals so far.  Further fleshing out the lore for the returning ones is nice, but the new ones shine.

Space capitalist gangsters?  Religious pilgrim nomads?  SIGN ME UP.

How the hell did you land on that date??

Wasn't it published in an article a while back? Or am I confusing  it for another game? I honestly can't recall.
